My OLD ranger

This was the truck I owned before the toyota. It was a 94 splash 4.0 4x4 with red interior. I liked it, but i wrecked it.
My main problem with it was that when I wanted to haul a trailer, it would overheat the tranny, and ATF would overflow out of the fill tube, and all over the road! I also thought that I would get used to the red interior, but it never happend. I hated it until the day I sold it. Edit: Sorry, I forgot to write my question before I posted lol! My question is: The new owner of the truck, a friend of mine, just had the tranny on it overheat again, and he wants to get to the bottom of it. What would be an easier/more logical fix, Putting an external tranny cooler on it, switching to fully synthetic ATF, or selling it and buying something that can pull a greasy string out of a pigs butt? the external cooling unit would help. i'm not sure about using synthetics, as i'm uneducated about them.
