New Filter Making My Ranger Idle Funny... Why?

today i went got a few thing for the ranger.. and instead of getting a regular filter.. i got a aftermarket "360" filter.
i put the new filter on the truck and it starts to idle funny.. like it almost loping like a v-8?... and then it dies.
it not hard to crank up and i can drive around with it.. it just when it idle, it want to die or just not wants to idle smooth?
.. i also got new plugs.. just stock motocraft plugs... if i put these will that aklso mite help the problem?
.
.
1 more qu.
i got some " sea foam"..
like a injector cleaner ... have ya ever heard of it and dose it really work?
.
.
thanks

Did you mess with youm MAF sensor? Or you IAC? I have used seafoam in the past, its a great product.

Sounds like it could be an air leak between the MAF and throttle body. Or if it is an oiled filter, it could have contaminated the MAF.

You can also force it to re-learn its idle strategy by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, reconnect it, start engine, don't touch the gas, idle at least 5 minutes in Park, idle 5 more in Park with AC on, 5 more in Drive, and 5 more in Drive with AC on.

Only two 5 minute cycles needed with a manual transmission, both in Neutral, second one with AC on.

Could also be an IAC sticking (or bad). You can remove it and clean its innards with that Seafoam.

But it really does seem awfully coincidental that you messed with your air filter and NOW you have a new problem......I'm going with Bob. Intake tube leak or contaminated MAF if the new filter is oiled. But you can try the idle relearn stategy for kicks. Might help.

So did you take off the air box and put an adapter on the MAF and then a cone filter?

If he took off the vac lines and sensor lines or whatever without capping them off then it will cause his truck to die.

updaqte**.. i went to the shop this morning.. and i got the truck ran on a com.
. there was 2 code that it pulled up. one was being a vacum leak. (got that fixed and it mostly fixed the idle problem ) and a camshaft sensor it going out.
.
and im getting the new spark plugs put in as we speak.
.
so hopefull next week, ill get the sensor fixed.. and we should be good to go!.
As far as the filter, all i did was took the old round filter out and replaced it with a performance filter.
.
. thanks again for all ya help
p.s. if i had a working camera i would do pick.. but it was a choice of camera or spark plug. hopefully i made a good choice...HOLLA!
