Need help ASAP: Exhaust system won't pass inspection in Mass

We've got this stupid law about having cars not too loud. When I purchased my truck last year, it already had a FlowMaster (I think) installed. The inspection guy last year said it BARELY passed inspection.

I took it to another place just now, and they told me it wouldn't pass. He was nice enough not to start the inspection and let me choose what to do. If he had started the inspection, he would have had to fail it and I would only have a 60 days to fix it and bring it back to him.

Is there anything I can install to make it quieter? I can't find a baffle that'll do that.

Thankz.

Have you tried to take to the place you passed before?

I really don't wanna... they're a bunch off asshats to begin with. When I had my '95 S10 Blazer, they failed it because of bad ball joints. I sold it before I fixed it, and the buyer got it inspected with no problems.

ball joints will fail in pa too...any suspension component that is bad will cause a vehicle to fail inspection just take it back where it was done last year

Maybe put another muffler on before the inspection?

If you have a straight pipe area long enough you can splice in a resonator.Easy fix and shouldn't cost too much.

If I put a resonator, I'd have to put two... one on each tailpipe.... that'll get expensive.

I'm sure there's some kind of baffle you can put in the tail pipe. What's the inside diameter of your tips?

Edit: Not cheap but I wonder if you could use something like this..

The only problem with that is if an inspection station STARTS the inspection process here in Mass, they have to finish it. I can't go to one station where they'll fail me, and then drive to another to have it passed. I have to fix the issue within 60 days and then go back to the same station.

I found these... but I'm not sure if they really will silence most of the sound.

You could just slap on a stock muffler for a day and then switch it back.

So it's failing for being too loud? That's just wrong!

Get some friends that do inspections.

Putting a resonator would mean it would be permanent. I don't wanna change the powerful tone it's got now. lol

I actually did find one. My flowmaster tips are 3.5" in diameter. I just ordered two for $18 with free shipping.

I want it to be removable so I can have my beautiful sounding Ranger back to the way it was before the inspection. lol

The flowmaster is welded in, so it'd be difficult to remove and then put back on.

They hate low cars or just cars in general around here if you have a truck you'll pass if you have exhaust without a doubt i pass every year and the guy doesnt even say anything. i bet mines louder than yours since its dumped lol
