CB/PA radio

Get yourself a CB, Cobra 19DXIII is cheap and easy.. Goto radio shack and buy a 25 watt indoor/outdoor PA speaker along with some 2-way speaker wire and an 1/8" headphone plug.. wire it up and mount the CB.. CB should be 50 bucks, speaker should be 20 and then 5 bucks or so for the rest..

Well, you will also need an antenna. The possibilties for this are endless. If you want something you can take down and don't want to drill holes, you can get a magnet mount. The best antenna setup is one that is permanently moutned to the roof by drilling a hole.

In all my days I've never ever seen a 'CB Shop'. Where the hell are you guys finding these places?

I used to have a SNR meter and I used to tune the antenna and such myself. It's like $15 for the meter at RS (less at the pawn shops) and takes like 10-15 min, it's easy..
