so i just bought this 99 xlt today and it has this really annoying chime when i first start the truck and drive for a little bit. it beeps 5 times in a row, waits a bit and does it again. all told it does this set of five thing 5 times. someone told me it was an airbag thing and i really don't know. i still want the airbags to work. and there are no lights that come up on the dash. any ideas on how to fix? thanks in advance.

 

Traditionally that means your seatbelt isn't buckled, but no dash lights makes me wonder.You are wearing your seatbelt right?

 

yea seat belt is on. just went out and looked again and where you can turn the passenger airbag on and off there is no light that comes on and i looks like there is supposed to be. i didnt make a difference whether or not the airbag was on or off it still did the same thing.

 

5x5 beeps is supposed to be the audible backup for the airbag trouble light in the cluster. Yours is probably burned out.

 

ok. so do the air bags work or not? if i replace the bulb will the beeping stop?

 

there is a problem with your air bags are get a code scan....

 

Likely, but not practically. Get the codes pulled to ensure there isn't an underlying cause. Maybe the airbag light burned out because it's been on for so long from another failure???
