What do you guys think? This bumper and a 10k Smittybilt.

I can get 4x4x1/4 angle free at work. I was thinking about cutting off the stock crossmember and welding it on with the lip sitting in top of the frame. Maybe with some 1/4 gussets in the v of the angle and boxed off ends for the side mounts. Do you think it would be strong enough?

Or should I just get some rectangular tubing, 2x4 or 2x6? Which I would have to pay for.

I am pretty sure your welds would be more than strong enough. That is what I am going to be doing. Use angle iron for the front and rear of the frame for support and to get rid of the spare tire mount.

It would be done by our welder at work. I've been practicing MIG but I'm not confident enough to be welding on the truck just yet.

I would try it. Maybe test something out and make sure your welds are good. But I am sure it would be strong enough.

I've been testing on the same stuff I'd be putting on the truck. Welding 1/4 angle together and welding up sprinkler pipe.

I can make a good weld and it looks ok. But I just figured I'll let a professional handle it, that is unless I get really impatient and get the urge to put it on. I'll probably have to wait until next weekend for him to do it.

Well, I got impatient and started this up at work while the computers were down. It's just 4x4x1/4 angle with boxed ends.

Fits good this way.

Not so good this way. I'll have to get that fixed.

I can't wait to see this bumper on your truck, it's gonna look sick as long as you don't paint it orange lol.

Some more test fitting.

For what I have made so far it will sit 1 1/2" lower then it is in these pics. So it will fit good under the lights. But I need it atleast 2 1/2" lower for the winch to clear the grille. I'll probably try to find a good way to mount the solenoid over on the passenger side to keep it out of the way.

I think God must of put these tow hooks on because my mortal tools are no match for them. I'll have to see what we have at work to get them off.

Man you should cut the grille instead of lowering the bumper. I think it looks perfect how its sitting in those pics.

I'm still debating on whether or not to cut the grille. But that looks like the only way I'm gonna keep it nice and tight.

I know if I do decide to cut the grille, I'll probably go ahead and cut holes in the honeycomb for my hellas. Kinda like mustang lights or something.

I vote for cutting the grill and putting the hellas in there too.
