Hurst shifter

Hurst shifter
I just bought a 99 edge, great truck. It came with oversize tires, superchip, great sounding exhaust etc...
My question has to do with the shifter. I've never dealt with a hurst short throw before. It shifts fairly smooth going slow, but when I pick up to regular speeds the shifting gets tougher.
I don't plan on speed shifting but if I had to it would be hard. I have to let the rpms come down while shifting before it shifts decent (especially 4th).
I've gotten used to the pattern, it is touchy. But it's the hardness it has while going to the next gear, is this normal for this shifter or did it get put in wrong.
Thanks,
Trav

2. Do you have a hurst?
3. I sometimes find the shift feel with the hurst to be a little hard sometimes...but it's very livable as i've had my hurst in for well over 30,000 miles. What you are feeling is perfectly normal for the hurst. It's firm and direct as it should be. Mine shifts perfectly fine at all speeds...virtually no difference between low rpms and high rpms or low speeds and high speed 'racing' mode. lol. There's really no wrong way to install the hurst. Just get those stop nuts positioned correctly to prevent overshifting.

Thanks for the info. It is the hurst billet shifter, I am getting more used to it, so it's not so bad now. I really like the feel of the short throw, it is stiff (so to speak) but the shifts are going better now. Like I said 4th has a tough place in it if you don't hit it just right.
I don't remember now if the guy was selling it as an edge or if I assumed it was because of the looks. Thanks for letting me know, I looked up when the edge came in and you're right it wasn't in 99, it was 01. Is anyone getting the 29mpg they claimed? This one's getting 22 mpg. I'm pretty amazed at how well this thing hugs the road/curves. For a truck it's a real pleasure to drive (the 200 watt speakers don't hurt either....).
This truck came with a custom grill, fog lights, oversized tires, bed cover, 4x4, xlt pkg. So maybe I just assumed it was an edge.
anyway, thanks again.

You should get some pictures post ASAP. I got my Hurst shifter a few weeks ago but haven't got any pictures up of it yet because my cup holder doesn't fit right so it looks bad right now. I can't wait to go to a junk yard and find a explorer full length console...
*edit* didn't say anything about the way it shifts* I find its a little stiffer than the stock shifter but I think its great, I now know when I get in gear with it instead of the spaghetti noodle that was in before hand.

You are completely correct with 4th gear being a little funky at first....i kept shifting the thing sorta crooked and hitting the stop between 2 and 4. lol. You'll get used to it.
Cup holder doesn't fit right? What's wrong with it??? is it the hurst that you are blaming for the cup holder not fitting correctly??
Here's my brothers non-bodylifted '01 w/ the hurst installed in the same floor console you should have in your truck....(oh...and dont mind the incomplete ashtry cubby hole...i took the shots before i remembered to install those. lol. )

I don't know, with the Hurst in it doesn't seem to want to sit flush with the floor. At first I thought it was because of the 6 folds I left on the boot, so I cut another one off so it looks like your brothers. There is a clip to hold the cup holder down that seems to get in the way. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. I'm not too concerned with it because I'm hoping to get an explorer centre console and get a subtle leather boot for it.
