New Mustang or Ranger?

Should i get a 2010 Ranger, or a 2010 Mustang
if i got either of these, it would be pretty basic (5 speed, V6 or 4 cylinder) and basic options. or should i just keep my '99 with 99,501 miles on it?

For the price of a new Ranger or Mustang you can buy a used Ranger or V8 Mustang in good shape and put some money into it to make it perfect.

if you're gonna get a V-6 Stang, just go with the 4cyl Ranger, it'll be faster.

For now I would just keep your Ranger. Thats not many miles. I would drive the truck till it gets worn out or tired then get something different

i agree, why get a v6 mustang if the power isn't there? either go big with a v8 or go home. as for a ranger, i've never driven a 4 banger. but i assume that the power to weight ratio for a reg cab, 6 or even 7 foot bed is pretty good.

it's your call.

That just answered your question right there. Keep fixing the Ranger until it explodes in a ball of flames. Their easy to work on and parts are cheap and everywhere. Save your money til you're done with school and making mad cash.

Icon14 Get a GT keep the Ranger

The Ranger is barely broke in swap a V-8 for fun and get a used 05-09 Mustang GT you can do both for less than a new GT or V-6 for that matter.

Current rides:
1991 Ranger Supercab 4.0 4x4 200k soon to be 4.6 liter 32 valve
2006 Mustang GT 80k never been to the shop
2009 Flex wifes ride (modern day woodie without the termites)

Why not get a used 05 GT? you would love the 2010 for about 3 weeks and then you will start looking in the mirror everytime you get in it and say "shoulda got a V8". But by then your stuck with a $400+ car payment for 6 years.

So wait...you are in college already or in high school?

If I could go back to 18 years old, with the knowledge I have now, I would save every damn dime I could for college and not worry about the car I drive until after.

You know what sucks? Being 50k in debt after college, and having to pay 300+ payments each month for the next at least 20 years. If I had no college loans to pay back right now, i'd be driving a brand new Ranger or Mustang.

If someone else is paying for you college, and you don't have to worry about debt, save your money anyway. Put every damn dime you can away in a savings account until you get out of college in 4-5 years. Maybe you will have enough saved up to pay for over half of a Brand new Mustang or put a good down payment on a house.

However, I know you're 18 and you will probably not truly understand what I mean by all of this until you are in my shoes. But maybe you will. Its hard to fight urges to go out and blow money...i'm still battling. Shiny new things are nice, but after awhile writing that check every month in order to keep the shiny new thing gets to be a pain in the ***.

keep your current ranger. Save up and get the GT don't settle for the V6. I was in the same mindset you are right now when I was in highschool ready to graduate. I really wanted something different but then realized its way cheaper to mod the ranger than to get an 03 or 04 cobra (thats what I wanted) and have crazy monthly payments and really expensive insurance. When I graduate from college thats when I'll be getting what I want. just wait for what you really want.

keep your ranger. With 99k miles on a '99, that should last you a while. My '98 has 164k miles and still runs great. If you want to change stuff up, get seats and other misc parts like that. Like what other said, save your money. When you get to college, you'll want to have some.

Money no object id have a Mustang. However, I LOVE the utility of the truck and I already own a muscle car so I dont NEED a new Mustang.

Dont buy a 2010 Mustang. 2011 ones will be the secks. Even the V6. Why? Its getting the 3.7L V6 as the base engine. Rumor says it will be packing 315hp. Yeah... the BASE V6 engine will have more power than the Cobra of 9 years ago.

x2 and along with that new V6 is a 6 Speed standard. Personally i'd keep the truck. It has Low mileage for that year. Do you want another car/truck payment? Just save up for that Mustang GT 5.0.

Isnt the current V6 a 4.0L? why would they go smaller? 315 may sound like alot but look at the new camaro. there so freakin heavy it feels more like 200hp. Mustangs keep getting heavier and heavier every year....

Displacement may go down, but the horsepower is going up.

if you're gonna get a mustang, get one thats a few years old. with a v8. they go for dirt cheap. i found an 07 with 17k miles on it for like 18k. thats not bad at all. it didnt have leather. but it was a stick. thats all i need.

The Mustang is around 300 lbs less than a Camaro (V8-V8, not so sure about the 6 bangers) which is why even with the GT being over 100hp down, its not a whole ton slower even today. The new 5.0L V8 (next year as well) is supposed to have 400hp, so i doubt the Camaro will be faster for long. IIRC, the next gen Mustang is supposed to undergo quite a diet, along with all other Ford cars. All the fuel efficiency tech in the world wont do crap if you are hauling around 2 tons fat all day long. Cutting the fat out of the cars is another way to just improve MPGs and performance.

The 3.7 is a much more modern DOHC engine than the Koln V6 thats in the Mustang and in the Ranger. In FWD Lincoln MKS, the 3.7 makes ~270 hp and thats straddled with FWD packaging limitations (transverse exhaust is restrictive!) and a FWD transaxle thats not as beefy as whats out there for a RWD app.

Just because the engine is smaller, doesnt mean its gonna be weak.
