Anyone know what the average life on ford brake pads should be? My brakes have 17K on them and the pads are more than half gone. Im thinking of putting on ceramic pads when the time comes. Also what would be the best pads to get?

 

hawk brake pads are supposedly really good. ive got a set sitting and waiting to be put on the truck, so im not sure of how good they really aree

 

I got 50K on my fronts(just changed them 2 weeks ago) and still have plenty of back brakes left.

 

Waiting for mine to start squeaking then ill change them.

 

damn i only got like 15k on my fronts!!

but LOTS of stop and go.

 

I got 30K miles on the original front pads. I switched to Raybestos Super Stop pads. I improved the stopping power and got a little over 40K miles on them before having to get a new set.

 

i bought my truck at 38k and had to replace them at 40k

I too have some Raybestos, they are ceramic pads, not sure if they are the super stop pads, but I picked them up at kragen for like 80 bucks.

Try your local Kragen Sean. They should have it.

 

Sean, I usually buy my brakes online at a place like RockAuto.com. As I recall they run about $50.

Super Stop pads are not Ceramic. Raybestos ceramic pads are call Quiet Stop and run about $60 at RockAuto.com.

When I switched to Super Stop pads I had to also switch the rear brake shoes to Super Stop. With Super Stop only on the front, the brake bias was too much to the front. When I installed the Super Stop rear shoes, the proper brake balance returned and I had much better stopping power than with the factory brakes.

 

Wagner ThermoQuiets hands down.

i have raybestos oem..didnt like them i destroyed them in a month, i have that thermoquiets, they've been on since 12/7/07 and in need of major replacement, hawk pads are very good esp when used with powerslot rotors...which is what i will be upgrading too along with new calipers

 

ThermoQuiet pads have a noise damping shim molded into the back of the pads, almost every other pad had that metal shim that you have to glue on the back of the pads. Its whats known as the IMI (integrally molded insulator). Thats what seperates ThermoQuiets from the reat of the bunch. I like em personally b/c no noise, produces white dust instead of blak dust, long pad life and great stopping power.

 

That is good information. Have you observed any wear on the rotors when using the ThermoQuite pads? That is one thing I have heard that is a drawback to ceramic pads.

my silver truck has them and has had them for years..

my GF focus had about 6k on it and i took off the stock ford pads and swapped on Wags..

 

The pads for my '99 are semi-metallic, so I cant say if they wear rotors or not on the ceramics. Every commercial customer I have will buy nothing but ThermoQuiets.

 

my old brakes from my 2wd parts had raybestos pads.

they had about 40k on em when i took everything off and they were at about %50.

 

Anyone know the actual part number for the Wagner ThermoQuiet pads for Edge 4x2 models with 11 inch rotors?



Nevermind: Found it on www.rockauto.com. Part number is MX833

 

I only got about 20K out of my factory pads. I replaced them with EBC Greenstuff 6000 Series SUV and Light Truck Organic Brake Pads http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku, I like em, it stops a lot better.
