One x-runner and one TRD sport 4x4. Both horrible trucks. I lemon lawed the x-runner and the TRD Sport 4x4 was no better. Clutch problems, sensors, interior pieces braking. You Name it.

Funny you mention Spark Plugs... I replaced mine last night... All I did was put a little pb blaster around the plugs, let it sit for an hour and .............. wammmmo they came right out.

As far as small trucks, you can get a 2009-2010 Ranger FX4 Loaded for around $22k with rebates. It will do everything the Taco will except haul a$$. The Taco is fast, but offroad it is not so hot. I would buy a new Ranger before a Tacoma... But then again I love Ford.

Can you honestly support a company that has to have there government bail them out... Ford didn't... Toyota did.

Toyota Seeks Bailout From Japan

BTW, I have a "BASE FX4 F-150" and It has more standard options on it than your Taco. just FYI. Name it, I got it. So does every F-150 FX4.
Funny. You owned one and know nothing. There are 2 TRD packages and its a lot more than stickers. Mine is the offroad so I got a locker, downhill assist, auto lsd, atrac, skid plates, bilstein shocks, rear camera and 120 volt outlet. And of course you scream bailout. Guess what? Ford was almost there. What would you say if Ford did it? Probably nothing. Also the Tacoma is way better offroad in so many levels. Also funny that you love Ford so much yet you strayed anyway. Hmmmmm.

My truck has no recalls. Again one problem with imports and it gets blown up big time. Remember the Ranger cruise problem? Remember how Ford screwed up the recall?

Alright children calm down, OP didnt want this to be a pissing match between you two. Though it'd make for a good RF Celebrity deathmatch, Jeweler vs Whippersnapper. No need to go back and forth. Lets get back on track.

LMAO... I know what the packages are. The 4.0 v6 (1GR-FE) is a great motor, way better than the previous v-6's, but the tranny is just weak sauce for it.

Congrats on the new truck BTW. I hope you have better luck with it than the Ranger.

Thanks man. Tranny is fine so far. Hell the whole truck is great so far. I've only had it a month and its been great. No more worrying if my truck will make it to work.

We are debating. Hopefully people will eventually figure out this concept and quit getting butt-hurt and lock jawed about it. The one respect I have for him is he stands his ground and doesn't act like a pu$$ when confronted.

I think Whippersnapper got a nice truck, not my cup of tea, so I will express my voice and if he can't live with it, by all means he doesn't have to read it.

i bought a ranger for a couple of reasons. right size, supporting my family member who works there, attracted to the truck, reputation.

when i did get my truck, i was looking at the dakota, colorado and even seeling what i could afford with an f150. the ranger fit the niche very nicely. offered what i needed and i knew the track record of a truck that has been around 26 years. i didn't like the looks of the colorado too much but it was starting to grow on me. my buddy has one and as had nothing but issues with it. i didn't look at the dodge enough but it was a little bigger for me even though i was looking at a 150. however, the 150 would have been a reg cab and i would have had to pay a little more then i was willing/could afford at the time. i knew i was getting a raise but i didn't kno when. i played it safe and got my ranger.

OP, i don't know much about the toyotas but i do know that i and alot of others on this site are happy with their rangers. you would be to.

Id pick the Tacoma if money was not an issue. Ive owned nothing but Ford since I was 15 but lets face it the ranger is just so overdue for a face lift and no way would I pay that much money for a truck that i could pick up used for $12k less

I vote 2010 ranger sport with all the options. We have a silver one here locally that I would love to go trade on, but I don't want a higher payment

Arent a bunch of Taco's still built in NUMMI? That would debunk that.

PERSONALLY, Id go used, but maybe a year or two old if you want a Taco. New ones are way overpriced IMO. The Ranger is a solid choice and i bet for that 28K you have, you would be able to buy one, pay it off completely and still have a few grand left over.

The bad with the Ranger is that the resale on them is crap. The Taco will hold its value better for a longer amount of time. Of course, if you pay 22K for a Ranger vs 30K for a Taco, thats a lot of ground to make up. Im sure the Ranger in 5 years will still be worth around 15 if you get an FX4. The Taco will probably still be worth around 20. That puts both around 30%. FWIW, my Ranger still blue books for MORE than i paid for it. The high Private Party blue book is over $20K. I paid 16K and change for it, and even with financing, tax and everything it was just over 19K.

I feel Toyota reliability is overblown. For my Ranger ive had ONE annoyance. The windows jiggle a little sometimes when they roll down. Other than that... NO problems, vibrations or anything weird at all.

My last Ranger had 2 issues in the 60K miles i owned it. A starter was replaced under warranty (no cost to me) and the left outer tie rod was also replaced under warranty (also no cost to me). I dont know of many Taco owners, but my uncle bought an 08 brand new and the AC didnt work (right off the lot, but fixed obviously at no cost) and well, the one posting in this thread already has two issues with his. (driveshaft vibration and soft leafs). Does that make it a POS? no of course not. However, if it was his Ford, i would bet he would be a lot less forgiving of 2 problems with it in the first 5K miles.

The driveshaft vibration is normal with the 2-peice driveshaft, and the Limited Slip rear end.

Yeah I stated I have to small problems that wont leave me stranded. But they will be fixed so I don't care. My Ranger had plenty more problems through its life even when I first got it. The slave cylinder problem should be addressed but of course Ford doesn't care. Same with the timing chain issue. Like I said before. All vehicles have their problems but from personal experience the Import companies fix them. For years my family has had better luck with Import cars, except Mitsubishi, over the American cars.

It's funny though. I get criticized for not buying what you and the rest of the Ford lovers like. Even the OP is looking at them so no I"m not the only one that realizes that there are better vehicles out there for your money. Sorry I don't blow a load for every Ford vehicle I see. I don't for Imports either.

If you have the money in cash... Buy a 02-03 ranger lv2.. or a 02-03 fullsize ext cab. Pay under 15000. Save your money.. Invest the ****. You will like yourself more in the end. Buyying news vehicles is wasting alot of money.. my 2 cents!

If you want a small truck go with the tacoma if money is not an issue. I have had so many problems with my ranger that I will probably never buy another ford.

Buying a new vehicle is not a waste of money. You don't have to worry about anything for a long time vs buying someone else's problem when you buy used. I burned over 20K in cash on my old truck buying it an repairing it over a 4 year period. The truck was 14,300 and the rest of the cash was repairs. You can still invest your money and pay for the new vehicle if you are smart about it. My truck payment takes less than one weekly check to pay. I still have plenty of money to pay bills, have fun and save. Anyone can do it as long as you get something within your budget. If you buy a 40K truck while working at a Jack in the Box then you are a moron.
