New Truck... ish?

So over the past couple days ive been looking into an 83 f250. it is a 4x4 regular cab long bed with a 7.5 liter gas (460 ci) engine. oooh the baddassness. but it doesnt run. anyway, i posted a thread a little while ago about towing the beast, but i finally got a hold of the owner and i found out some stuff.

he said that the truck has been in his family since new and has been used only for camping trips, and has sat idle for long stretches of time in between trips. he said that theres rust on the hood, but hes not a car guy, so im thinking theres probably rust other places, he just doesnt know where else to look or he didnt want to, haha. BUT ANYWAY, he said that everything is there, dash, tranny, the tires are in decent shape, all the parts are together.

uh... the engine's not running and i asked if he any idea why he said it doenst turn over but a while ago when it was taken into a shop they just sprayed some "carburetor spray" on the carb and up it went... i talked to a couple car people and they said "maybe the guy forgot to check the battery" or it may just have no gas, or really really old rotten gas in it.

so... the truck is listed as "600 but negotiable." im gonna go see it on sunday when we're both free and he comes back from outta town. any input you guys have is welcome as usual. my dad used to have a 83 f350 with the same engine, but we sold it years ago to put a down on my ranger, and ive been wanting a similar truck ever since then. that and my family doesnt think im gonna go through with the restoration and all that, so im like 95% positive im gonna get it and spite them w/ its badassery. No pics of it, sorry =(

something else to consider is that classic car customization and restoration is ultimately what i want to do with my future. i can't think of anything else that i would rather be doing. It's like art to me, but art that i can drive and show off. so whaddaya think?

Thanks for your time, effort, and input guys!
~Mike

Sounds awesome, if it sits at rest for long periods I would also suspect the gas going bad, if you smell the gas and it doesnt have the usual smell then I would empty the tank and fill it with new, clean out the carb, charge the battery or get a new one and it would probably start up. Thats a big problem with RV's, people leave them sitting for months and then the gas goes stale and they dont know what to do.. good luck man..

hey, so i went and checked out the 250... and ive decided not to get it. the body is in good shape, mostly, but there are too many if's about the truck that would end up costing me way more money than i would make reseling the truck.

Considering what i wanted to do with the truck, its just too big of a issue considering the fact that i would be at school and pretty much unable to work on it. its a great deal but i think the guy is just trying to dump his problem on someone else, and i dont wanna be the pigeon.

anyway, it was such a cheap truck that i had to at least check it out

well, i talked to my buddy and im starting to reconsider it again, haha.

but the if's are mainly the fact that the guy doesnt know whats wrong with the engine, or hes not telling me. and it really seems like hes trying to get rid of a headache and give it to me. so in all actuality, anything could be wrong. and i would probably have to replace all the rubbers and seals because the truck hasnt really been in use for 2 years.

but he had the carburetor replaced, cause him and the mech though that it was the carb, and that didnt fix it, so he doesnt know wtf is wrong.

& trying to turn around the truck would be difficult because of the lack of market. but now im thinking that if i get the truck i would make it MY truck, you know? build it for me, something that i dont intend to be selling... i dunno, i have to think about it some more. im in no rush to spend my money, haha.
