"GARDENA, Calif., (August 13, 2004) - Nissan North America, Inc. today announced best-in-class horsepower and torque ratings for the all-new Nissan Frontier pickup, which goes on sale at Nissan dealerships nationwide in December 2004. The completely redesigned 2005 Frontier comes equipped with an available 4.0-liter DOHC, 24-valve V6 engine that is rated at 265 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque."
Well well, Nissan is finally giving owners something other than their pathetic 3.3L V-6 that only put out 210HP when supercharged.
Also that might put them on the charts, because The frontier is one of the worst selling trucks in the current year.

We just launched the Pathfinder (same engine, same basic platform) today at our facility in Smyrna....
Expect the new Frontier to be launched within a month. I drove one on our test track, and OMG. It flies. Put it this way, I was toying with a V-6 Altima on the straights.
The interior is 100% better IMO. Look for a nice Desert Runner model soon.....
Ford had better have an ace with the Ranger, that's all I'm saying. The F-150 is already getting whooped by the Titan, 1/4 mile wise... :(

The new engine is public info. Supposedly the 6.1 liter hurricane. Last I heard it was all new and was not decided whether it was going to be overhead cam or cam in block. I am hoping for cam in block.
As for the belt routing diagrams, I am as curious as you are and that's about as far as I can go with that.

265 out of a 4.0 is nothing for Nissan....they got 280 out of a 3.5 for the Z....
And that's a VERY choked down motor...

I'm not a big fan of the Crew Cab's though....although they are VERY roomy.
Nissan has tried to be very attentive to customer demands. One of the biggest initial complaint's about the Titan's styling was the chopped-up chrome/paint mixture on the front bumper....and a very quick three weeks later marked the beginning of a new option: Monochromatic bumpers. 8)
I'll say this much about the Frontier. You'll be replacing rear tires OFTEN if you're not careful....

NOBODY has fully explored the potential of the sohc YET. I'm toying around with it , the market hasn't outside of some cold air intakes ( not even a real intake manifold ).
2005, the sohc goes into the mustang as teh base v6. *Ford* printed this, other mags/rags stated a 3.5litre v6 would go in.. of the 3 dyno shops I know, all are ramping up for a sohc 4.0 powered stang. Maybe they are stupid or don't know anything?
The Engine I have right now was built by one of those shops. I'm ( more or less ) a guinie pig , beating on their test mule. Its a damn good engine that loves rpm's . Q said it sounds like a vintage 289.. its funny as I had a 289 in my 84 ranger and it sounds QUITE simular BUT, this sohc seems to have more on the bottom end from what I had with the 289.. tells me something.
My point.. *IF* the aftermarket starts making parts for this engine..
