http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/05frontier.html

"GARDENA, Calif., (August 13, 2004) - Nissan North America, Inc. today announced best-in-class horsepower and torque ratings for the all-new Nissan Frontier pickup, which goes on sale at Nissan dealerships nationwide in December 2004. The completely redesigned 2005 Frontier comes equipped with an available 4.0-liter DOHC, 24-valve V6 engine that is rated at 265 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque."

Well well, Nissan is finally giving owners something other than their pathetic 3.3L V-6 that only put out 210HP when supercharged.

Also that might put them on the charts, because The frontier is one of the worst selling trucks in the current year.

That is technically a midsize though. But I would wheel that before the chevy any day. I like my trucks small.

We just launched the Pathfinder (same engine, same basic platform) today at our facility in Smyrna....

Expect the new Frontier to be launched within a month. I drove one on our test track, and OMG. It flies. Put it this way, I was toying with a V-6 Altima on the straights.

The interior is 100% better IMO. Look for a nice Desert Runner model soon.....

Ford had better have an ace with the Ranger, that's all I'm saying. The F-150 is already getting whooped by the Titan, 1/4 mile wise... :(

There is a new engine for the F-150 coming. There are some interesting belt routing diagrams under the hoods of the super duty also.

The new engine is public info. Supposedly the 6.1 liter hurricane. Last I heard it was all new and was not decided whether it was going to be overhead cam or cam in block. I am hoping for cam in block.

As for the belt routing diagrams, I am as curious as you are and that's about as far as I can go with that.

Because the new Frontier and Pathfinder are both midsizes. Different class altogether. We all know the Ranger is capable of way more than that, but safety first as far as corporations are concerned. The 4.0 in the Nissan is also DOHC, and very well designed.

265 out of a 4.0 is nothing for Nissan....they got 280 out of a 3.5 for the Z....

And that's a VERY choked down motor...

Ford is the only one of the big three with overhead cam engines in their trucks, talking the big engines here. The 5.7 hemi is cam in block and so are all the chevy engines. It's all about torque and torque down low.

Not to mention you can get much more power out of Zs with minimal work.

284 lb/ft of torque is impressive, but its probably made at a fairly high rpm...

From what they're telling us right now, you can order it either way. I've seen a Desert Runner protoype at work, and it was BRIGHT yellow. Monochromatic, and a nice pre-runner suspension. I've also seen a chromed-out version...and to be honest it didn't look bad AT ALL. It was jet black.

I'm not a big fan of the Crew Cab's though....although they are VERY roomy.

Nissan has tried to be very attentive to customer demands. One of the biggest initial complaint's about the Titan's styling was the chopped-up chrome/paint mixture on the front bumper....and a very quick three weeks later marked the beginning of a new option: Monochromatic bumpers. 8)

I'll say this much about the Frontier. You'll be replacing rear tires OFTEN if you're not careful....

I wish theyd do away with the slow 3.0 Vulcan and put something better! Yall 4.0 people are lucky, the 3.0 horsepower is rated like 8 more horsepower than the 2.3 according to ford.

Nothing compared to an OHV though.
