No heat

Hi,

Question on no heat in 03 ranger. 4.0. I just have cold air coming out of my vents. Have done the following: checked levels, burbed the system, can see blend door is working. Have no gurgle sounds or smell of antifreeze in the cabin. Both heater core hoses get hot. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Sounds like it’s a vent/door issue. First thing I would look at is the vacuum side. If the lines on the outside are good I would pull the control out of the dash check there. A good schematic would help a lot...

Edit: Looks like the blend door is electrical. So... You may be able to get someone with a scanner that has bi-directional control to see if the door can be manually commanded to open/close. I would turn the ac on let it get cold then turn on the heat. If the air stays cold for say 20-30 seconds then the blend door may not be working. If you can tell an immediate change then it seems the door is working, at least partially.

Welcome to the forum

How can you see the Blend door move?

Blend door is the most common issue in 1995 and up Fords for no heat.

Heater core issue is low heat not no heat, and if both heater hoses are warming up then you have flow thru the core, so there is really only the Blend door left as the problem

Thanks. Checked the blend door. Physically cut an opening in the black box to see it working. Have a leak in the plastic part of the radiator, ordered a new one. Going to replace and see what happens.

Hi im new to the forums so forgive me if i posted this in the wrong place, but i just replaced the heater core in my 97 ranger 2.3 5sp 2wd and now that i have eevrything back together im not getting any air coming out of the vents at all but i can feel cold air (i live in florida) coming out of the dash by the floor on each side, im not sure if i put the heater core cover back on wrong or what but this is very irritating now because i have no heat or defrost and its February and humid so my whole truck fogs up in the morning. please help im dreading taking the dash back out and the possibility of having to pay a mechanic to fix my **** up.

Here is a diagram of the climate control system: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...mschematic.jpg

There is no way to block air flow unless some "door" has broke off its pivots or something was left in the vent tubes

The air flow in the diagram above flows from blower fan to the left
Just below blower is the fresh air/inside air door, in either position it allows air to come in so blower can push it out
Next is the Evaporator, if you have AC then you have this, it cools(and drys) the air before it enters the vents, similar to heater core but it has "freon", instead of coolant, inside

Then the Blend door, the is the Temp control, its electric, other doors are vacuum, the blend door ROUTES air thru or around the heater core, it doesn't block air flow, just sends the flow thru the core or away from the core, but if its not on its pivots it could block flow

The other 2 doors route air to the 3 choices, defrost, panel or floor
Even if one of these broke off its pivots it couldn't block flow to all 3 choices

So best guess is the blockage is between fan and blend door
