After doing a ton of googling and talking to a couple shops, my Truetrac is on the way :party:

Hopefully any major snow will hold off a couple weeks until the installation. It sounds like my truck will at least hold its own now with some decent tires. Very curious to see it in action.

Haha so this got me looking into how much a truetrac costs. Both the eaton truetrac and eaton posi are over $500 from what I've found. That's not chump change. Least not for me :headache:

Yeah mine was $450 from Summit (plus $400-450 for installation), you're right definitely not chump change but for me it's way cheaper than buying a 4x4.

Then again you could have swapped in an Expo rear end. Mine only cost me $150 in the end...

I looked at doing that actually. Watched a few videos and walkthroughs on it, looked like a decent bit of work and getting other u bolts and other parts that would be needed (I think one video the guy said he had to have some bolts or other parts custom machined, I don't remember now). I'm guessing you'd have to rebuild the existing Ford L/S. I'm no expert but that's what I gathered. It also sounded like it would be a little more than $150 for me based on other threads I read through. Never priced all the parts out in detail though.

Either way, it really wasn't an option for me since I have nowhere to work on it and I need it as my only accessible transportation right now. Maybe I could've just had a shop install the axle and swap gears and L/S rebuild and whatnot but I suppose you'd still have labor costs and I've heard really heard good things about the Truetrac. It would be fun to gain that experience though if I had the place to mess with it.

The $150 cost was because I did most of the work myself and made a good about. Ack when I sold my old axle. Regardless it can be done cheap but if you don't have the knowledge and room to work its a pain.

Ah gotcha.

Their is a kit for the Ex Rear Diff, U-Bolts and Bracket, designed to bolt-on.
Easier than welding everything together.

Just a word of percaution… not sure if you have driven a posi in the snow or wet conditions but watch out, the @ss end will come around fast with both wheels spinning.

Off Roading a 2WD truck with a good posi will go far and sometimes out perform a 4x4.

Thanks for the info and tip, I wasn't aware of that kit for the axle swap. Also I have not driven a l/s in slippery conditions with exception to my Mustang a couple times in the rain. But I will definitely keep that in mind, especially if I choose to take some of the sandbags out. It should at least help some that I have 1/3 the power and better tires in the Mazda compared to the Mustang lol. If I can just be able to make it up mine and my parents driveways with a some snow on the ground, then it will be worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

Subscribed. Looking forward to seeing this on your truck and hearing your feedback. I've wanted a TrueTrac for years. And good to see you chose it over an Expo rear end. The Truetracs are far superior and will still be going strong when an Expo L/S wears out and stops working on you.

I have a True Trac in my Mustang. I love it, quiet, and you can steer it with the throttle.I put a Ford Ls carrier in the Ranger the year before and I regret it. The True Trac works far better and no stinking Ls additive.

No one said it does. But the DTT is still a major performance upgrade from open 2wd and can still be worth it

Not to wake the dead but she's at the shop now in surgery, with any luck I'll get to try it out within the next day or 2. Getting axle seals done and rear brakes at the same time.

I must have missed it in the fine print, but apparently the Truetrac is not originally set up correctly for the ABS ring (the mechanic said he'd be able to machine in the spot for it fairly easily). Anybody else ran into this issue?
