No Tach What Speeds Do You Shift At For the 2.3?

Hi All,

97 Ranger 2.3, 5 speed.
No tach so I'm wondering, "About" what speeds do you shift at for a happy medium of power and MPG?

I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd at about 30MPH, 2nd to 3rd at about 40MPH and 3rd to 4th at about 50MPH......to 5th about 60MPH.

Sound about right?

Thanks!

1997 2.3l SOHC engine makes best torque at 2,400rpm, so above 2,800 is a waste of fuel

MPH is not a good calculation because there are 2 variables needed, rear axle ratio and Tire diameter
If you have the common Ranger rear axle ratio of 3.73 and 27" diameter tires then you should shift to 2nd at 20mph
2nd to 3rd at 30mph
3rd to 4th at 40mph

This is for best MPG
