Is the stick itself loose where it bolts to the stub?. look under the boot and you should be able to tell. Mine went loose in my XLT so it's possible.

wow, i'll trade you my problems for your problems.....dude, not trying to be rude, but if you take the **** off and it stops or if you put your hand on it, then its the ****, doesn't get much easier than that......get a softer **** and glue it on......not really too complicated mate...lol

I have a 2002 FX4 and mine does it too. I think the weight of the **** combined with the angle in the shifter is putting a little extra pressure on the shift forks than you would have with a regular shifter. A regular shifter is straight, so the **** is in line with the shifter and shift base. With the bend in the FX4 shifter and the extra weight of the ****, you have created a moment around the base of the shifter. You are just hearing that little bit of pressure that the shift fork is putting on the slider. That's my take on it.

I've taken the **** off and it still does it. I'm not sure if there is an isolator on the regular shifters.
