Trucks aren't meant to be topless.

Chevy SSR comes to mind. Epic fail.

I love the "has removable soft top" part. It looks like a tarp and bungy cords. LOL

Is the tarp DOT approved? What about the bungee cords?

Might be safer tying it down with a clevis hooked tow rope lol.

i beg to differ, early broncos, ramchargers, blazers all look good without their tops on. even though the fullsize broncos have a roof over the cab, i'd also consider them. there is a guy or two in my city who owns a convertible dakota. it's a first or second gen, reg cab/longbed, 4x4. it looks good.

i remember when the whole sport truck scene started. there was a kit you could buy. either a convertible top kit or a targa top incase you wanted to keep the back of the cab intact.

Are you all kidding me? That thing is sweet. Re-paint it, lower it, and have yourself a an around town 'attention getter' that can still get the job done when it comes to hauling stuff in the back. I'd totally rock it if I lived in a 'summer' state like FL or CA.

I have nothing against someone wanting to make a truck a convertable, but this particular truck looks to be in pretty rough shape. I would worry about the mechanicals after seeing the condition of the body in those pics. The truck is only a grand, sure... but how much more would you need to spend on it after you bought it?

I know all about them. The convertible kit is called the Ratical soft top. They are CRAP. They leak and dont fit right and were super expensive.

The Dakotas were a factory option and they are stupid rare. Broncos share parts/frames with F150s, 4runners with SR5 pickups and Blazers with Sierras. It's also not the roof that comes off over the driver and passenger, it's simply a lift off top that removes from the rear seat and cargo area, so technically, it isn't a topless truck, it's an SUV that converts to a pick up truck...but has an open back wall.

Targa kits also suck. They leak and don't fit right.

I know lots of guys in the minitruck scene that have or have had Ratical or targa kits and they hate them.

older blazers had the entire roof come off (pre 80's). i owned an 85 bronk. i know that only the back half came off. as for those kits, i only remember seeing them in the mags, i had no knowledge about them. i was told that the dakotas were factory. they weren't called suvs back in the day, they were called orvs. suv was coined in the late 80's early 90's
