Aprox Year of Suspect Ford Ranger
Hello everyone, Ive come here to see if anyone could possibly give any help in my hit and run case.
I have a Dash Camera in my car that records on impact any accidents or events.
So basically to sum it all up I was traveling in my car when a ford ranger leaves a private parking lot, Slams into the side of my car then proceeds to take off.
With the license plate un-readable, and photos circulating around town my only option now would be to post the video here and have some fellow members respond who could possibly give an aproximate year of the ranger in question.
This would allow the police to search a certain year, with that color, Then I could research to see if certain digits in the vin represent having a stepside box etc.
It's a single cab red or burgandy in color, with a flare-side box, and with body color bumpers.
Heres the video below, and any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I wanna say it's an edge truck. It has the same rims that came on edge models.
I can't believe he didn't stop. Have you asked the body shops about someone coming in for repairs or the junk yards looking for parts?
Edges came w/ 3.0L's for sure and since it's a reg cab, it might even have a 4 banger. But don't quote me for sure.

Yeah those clear tails aren't gonna be on many Rangers. Also note the back sliding glass .
Someone else chime in on this, but aren't those power mirrors? Or did Ford make power looking manual mirrors for those years? I know for a 98-00 if it doesn't have the flag style its manual doors.
Also there is a hood visor (bug deflector) on it.
Can you not getting any better resolution than that from the camera?
Does that intersection have a camera? If so you can supoena the records or footage to get the plate number. If not at that intersection maybe the one after it.

Definitly an EDGE. If you pause the video at 17 seconds you can make out a blue-ish "EDGE" vinyl decal on the bed. And as far as how fast the truck was, I'm willing to bet its a 3.0. At 14 seconds you can sorta make out the torsion bar "key area" (sorry not sure of the actual term) but sadly that doesnt narrow it down as 2wd and 4wd Edge models came with torsion bars.

Thanks For all the information provided, We are still trying to track this guy down.
Based on the info recieved I will be giving the police the following info to narrow down the DMV search of possible leads.
Red in color with the first 8 digits of vin number, possibly 2001-2003 and definetly no later then 2005.
1FTYR10U- This vin, based on info from my auto service program signifies it is US built from what all rangers appear to be, has the 3.0L v6 non flex fuel, single cab 4X2, and is between 4001-5000 lbs.
Lets see where this takes me :)

Well might as well start giving a vin code. LIke xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and just replace the x's with the digits you know. I'm not too good with the stuff. I would assume the first is 2 for Canada, 2nd is F for Ford, and 8th is U for the 3.0.
I'm sure cops can search this way, at least I would hope.
