Jumkyard power steering rack

So I found out my stretch boot has a hole in it. I found out about 1 year too late. Anyway the rack is shot and I'm in need of a new one. I was looking around here and someone said not to get a used one. Why is that?

I don't see why as long as you can get one off a newer one with low miles, then you can be kinda sure that it has a lot of life left in it, just get one that looks to be in good condition and you should be good to go.

I think the most important thing is cleanliness when you remove it. Just make sure a bunch of dirt doesn't get into the system while its open.

ok thanks guys. I'll be hard pressed to find a newer ranger on the junkyards here. Most rangers last about 2 days before they are just a chassis and maybe some bolts.
