Oil pressure gauge drops when below 2k rpm

Symptoms started a few weeks ago and have progressively gotten worse. When I come to a stop, or if Ive just started the truck, or if Im driving and the rpms are below 2k, the oil pressure gauge will drop to 0 until I rev the engine past 2k rpm at which point it will return to the normal half way mark. If Im sitting at stop the oil pressure gauge will drop to 0, I will rev the engine, it will return and this repeats about every 15 seconds.

Im curious if it could be the sensor, or if it actually is loosing pressure. If it is losing pressure what do I need to replace? Anyone had this 2k rpm interaction before, and what could this interaction tell me about the issue? Thanks guys

If the engine is not rattling at idle, I would assume you have oil pressure and that the sending unit is bad.

Sending units are a well-known problem on 1980's to 2010's Ford vehicles. They only show at zero, or half[-scale. Half-scale means you have AT LEAST 7 PSI oil pressure. That's when it jumps to half scale, regardless of the actual pressure. Most engines are probably eating bearings with 7 PSI, so it's a very unreliable "gauge". An idiot light with a picture of an oil can would be more worthwhile than the gauge.

If you're concerned about the oil pressure, you need to find a test port and measure the pressure there with a mechanical gauge. Around 15 PSI at warm idle is normal. RPM affects oil pressure, so the higher the RPMS, the higher the oil pressure.

That was my assumption too. Till I just checked the oil level. Barely touched the dip stick. Figured it was time to do an oil change anyways. Immediately fixed the issue.

So Ill leave this thread for future retards like myself. Check your oil level

Yep.
The stock OilPressureSensor is just a PressureSwitch, Off\On Closes@5~7psi, not a VariableSignal.
The fake OilPressureGage is just a glorified IdiotLamp, Zero\HalfScale, not a TrueGage.
These Ford PressureSwitches tend to be troublesome in cold weather below 50f;
can be slow\no response, depending on Temp, OilWeight & how much sludge buildup in engine.

i agree with @2011Supercab cause when my truck was cold the oil pressure took a few seconds longer to build and it immediately started ticking, it then returned to normal sound once the pressure came back. You would know something was up if it was losing pressure.
