Oil leak... :(

Okay I'm pretty worried right now. I have just noticed a serious oil leak under my truck, and it's not from the oil pan plug or oil filter.. It's on the left-ish side of the frame..lots of oil.

Could it possibly be a leak in the pan on the left side? I'm praying that's it..

If not I'm assuming it's a leak from a seal in the engine?

What do I need to do to figure this out? besides get it up on a hoist..

ugh.

Open the hood and look down and see if you see any oil on the side of the engine from the top. It may be a valve cover gasket. Get some dye if you can and try using that to detect where the leak is coming from.

I looked from the top of the engine bay straight down and couldn't find anything that looked like it had oil on it..

I would get the die and seal kit after cleaning your engine off, also remember the oil blow back....i had a bad oil leak and I got annoyed with it so i took it down to the heads and put new gaskets on and it only took me a few days.

im having the same problem right now actually... oil is leaking from somewhere between the engine and the transmission.. im thinking its a crank seal or bearing that is the problem.. there is oil residue all over the bottom of the oil pan and as well as the transmission.. its all sprayed over the underside of the truck.. i'm thinking the only way to find out is to pull the tranny and see whats goin on.. sounds like your havin the same problem tho..

Yeah! Weird, I have the same leak. Had the tranny out and repeaced the rear main seal. Still leaks. Saw my Oil Filter was a bit loose tighten that back up. Still leaks, no either it's coming front he front of my oil pan or it's something with my tranny. It'm not very happy bout it. Already cost me over $500 to troubleshoot.

The very first thing to do is remove the oil filter.Check the top of the filter to make sure there is 1 (ONE) gasket on top.
Next check the surface on the engine where the gasket contacts and verify there is no old gasket still stuck on there.
It is very common that when the filter is removed at an oil change , the gasket from the filter sticks in place and does not come off with the old filter.

Hey man, I just got my truck inspected in British Columbia, I just moved there. But anyways, I told them my concern about the oil leak, and that I thought it was the rear main seal. The took a look at it and told me its probably not the rear main seal, they said they have replaced those seals before on similar trucks and my truck isnt showing the same symptoms.

They said that it is most likely the oil pan gasket, have you looked there yet? I figure that the gasket is leaking near the back of the oil pan, and thats why the oil is leaking from what looks like between the engine and the transmission. Worth a try at least. I'm goin to try to replace mine, see if that stops the leak..

Good luck!
