opinions ..

ok . just bored and been thinking here . . i have the truck in my sig , and '02 4x2 xlt extended cab on 33x12.5 , i have a black diamond plate slim top bedbox and rails , no carpet in the truck , and a brand new clutch and master cylinder i just put in the week after fathers day..here is a picture of it a while back .. class III hitch, window tint . blah blah ..

now the kicker .. i went to gator ford in florida.. who i bought the truck from about 2 years ago for 10,900,, and they tried to give me 3,200 for it !!! and tried to sell me a 23k$ 2007 automatic 4x4 ranger .. i almost kicked their asses for trying to take me as stupid and only offering me 3,200. after i had yelled at the guy , two more salesman came over and tried to convince me that what i wanted (i came in there with a specific truck in mind) was not available within 1000 miles . i told them "thats fine you cant find my truck ill go elswhere but dont low ball me 5k$ on my truck and think im stupid. i can get more money from the insurance if i drove it off a cliff!" after that the salesman said "if you can get 8k for your truck i have a job here for you!" i promptly told him he needs to rethink his offer on my truck and walked out, with no intentions of buying anything he had on his lot that he tried to snake me into ..

well .. done with that rant, sorry i had to get that out . there is alot more to the story but i dont want to bore you TOO much

so heres my question .. i love my truck ,it is paid off .. but i want a 4x4, and i honestly would like something older , v8 , full size , 5 speed with a manual transfer case . i want a bare bones truck. i dont like all the electronics on trucks. id rather an old dodge with a 318/360 or an f150/250 with a 351/460 .. gas mileage is not an issue .

here is what id like .
4x4
v8
cab big enough for a 6 foot guy . (i cant fit in a standard cab ranger)
5 speed
maunal transfer case
a/c
adaptability for truck . something that is easy to lift and has potential

id like to get something like that under 5k$ . only thing i have experience with is 80's dodge rams and i know you can run them things into the ground . im just bored here and looking for options .. or should i keep the ranger and in a few years put a SAS and 351 in her ..

try to find a good used 80 modle dodge or chevy there a dime a dozen around here and most of the time there only 2500 - 3000 wich leaves you a few grand to put into it that way you can keep your ranger incase you break the off road truck thats pretty much my plan when i pay of mine in two more months ....

im not worried about it being a daily and broken . i have a few cars . :)

thanks for the vote 99ranger4x4

im thinking since its paid off just keep it , and run it out . eventually i can do what i want to it .. it is a truck with a full frame and can easily hold a v8...but its that instant gratification that can be had right now , and have some money left in my pocket if i sold it and got an older 4x4 .. i hate being bored and thinking of stupid things to do

Well, I think your best option may be SAS and V8.

But otherwise, if you're looking for a capable wheeling rig(AND you already have other cars..)

Or basically the coolest truck ever made,

i would've offered you $3,200 for your truck as well... look at it, it looks like a 1995 in terms of shinyness and cleanliness. it needs a wax job. when a salesman see's a truck thats fairly new, but looks like crap in terms of the body, they automatically think the engine has been abused, the oil wasn't changed regularily, etc... so, next time, wash it, wax it, shine it up! and take it to another dealer and see what they'd pay for it. i'll bet it's around $5,000 (sorry, it's a 3.0 and a 4X2... not worth as much)
also, mileage plays a big part as well do you have high mileage? for a 2002, high mileage is between 12,000 - 15,000 a year. (national average is 10,000.)

Look at my profile for my trucks specs. I couldn't get 5 grand for it if I tried! Between the brake conversion, axles and gears/diff, I have over 1500 in the axle alone.. It means NOTHING to sales people. They dont HAVE to buy our vehical.

Rangers have little to no ' resale ' value, especially one they know has been modified and seen ' street ' or offroad use.

Seeing as your truck is ' riding for free ' as it has no payments/leins on it, Enjoy it . Save some dough and build it to how you want it.

Late 80's F150 sounds like what your lookin for

sorry. the truck was clean when i went to them . it only has 70k on it , a brand new clutch , slave cylinder , fresh oil and good tires. the a/c works , they looked under the hood and over everything . like i said , the insurance will cut me a bigger check for it , if i drove it over a cliff. less than a year ago i had an offer of 9,500 on it . i doubt i couldnt get 8000 for it today . the dealership that i went to has an 02 on the lot with more miles (same color and trim package!!) , and they are asking over 11k for it . but they can only give me 3200 for mine ? give me a break.
