Paint differences

Hey everyone, I have a '00 ranger which I recently hit a mailbox with and dented up my hood. I've been considering a 04-05 grille swap anyways, and now that I need a new hood I want to pull the trigger and get all the parts from a newer ranger. The problem is that mine is a medium platinum metallic grey color and they discontinued that after 2000. The 01+ grey is called dark shadow grey. How similar are the colors? I haven't put my ranger next to a newer gray one to compare.

Different code different color

Look on your drivers door label, back edge of door

You will see Exterior Color and a code number above it or next to it, usually 2 digits, letters or numbers
Then go here: 2000 Ford Ranger Colors of Touch Up Paint

Find the code number for your year, the longer number is the paint formula code

Select the year of your donor vehicle and see if that code was offered, grey will be tough, black or white is usually easier to match but not always, lol, who knew black is not always black

I've had good luck with automotivetouchup.com when repainting parts of my old Jeep. Color matched very well, and since you're doing an entire panel, that is better. I'd advise to get the K2 clear coat and a respirator and use that instead of the clear you can get at your local car shop.

Two cents, hope it's helpful.

Awesome, thanks so much. I'll keep this in mind when I get to doing it
