rangers. all years will work. some might need holes drilled in frame to attach but thats normal..

I have a hitch on my truck from a 1987 ranger.

remember: not to think if you put a hitch on your truck it can tow anything. meaning, a class III hitch will not tow 5000lbs using your truck. with your 3.0 4x2, your towing maximum is 3,965Lbs UNLESS you have manual transmission. then your maximunm towig weight is: 2,498Lbs.

^^^ what he said is right by the factory recommendations. That said, you *can* pull more for short distances, but a long pull can potentially cause problems. I've pulled 7000lbs with my 2.3 reg cab 5-spd, but I wouldn't recommend making a habit out of it.

ill keep that in mind. thanks, and im not planning on using it alot, or even now tbh. i just want it to have just in case, never know. with the recent body lift i have on, is that going to effect anything? and i have an automatic transmission.

so i would get a class 2 or 3?

Get a class 3, that way you'll have enough for whatever you pull.

With the bodylift, the hitch will just hang down in the stock location. It will just be below where the body is now, but the lift will not affect anything.

here is my Draw tite Hidden hitch.. normally the cross bar his hidden before the lift behind the bumper so you dont see it unlike the stock style hitch. this hitch is unmodded with the body lift. I have modded a stock style hitch before and still like this one better one day I will mod it who knows it doesnt bother me much.

Sorry for bringing back an older thread but is the complete cross bar hidden behind the bumper if you don't have a BL for that hitch or does some of it still stick out?

I am looking into getting a hitch, too, and was checking out different models online over the weekend. How much of the cross tube you see depends on the hitch design.

Here's some video links to various hitches being installed on Rangers:
Trailer Hitch Installation - 1998 Ford Ranger
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Ford Ranger
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Ford Ranger
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Ford Ranger
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Ford Ranger

I really like the design of the last one (Hidden Hitch model 70181). I consider not messing with the bumper and six bolts instead of four an improvement. It wouldn't work with Redneckstone's body lift, the bumper brackets are using those upper holes.

i think the 4cyl capacity is like 1500 or so .... depends on if what your trailer weighs if youre in the "we tow whatever we need to with our 4 banger" club

What looks like a jack in that pic is actually a bicycle pump. No jack on the trailer holding it up, but I do have bags, thats why the pump is there.

BTW, that combo was just under 7000 lbs.

only thing you will see is the receiver tube thats it. everything else is hidden.

all stock ford hitches are designed to use the upper holes and it WILL work with a hitch and body lift that style I have installed many with body lift brackets get your info straight before making comments you havent dealt with.

No need to get upset over this, I'm happy to be proven wrong. What I should have said was, "I can't visualize how this would work...".

So, how would the 6-bolt hitch and bumper brackets work together? From your pictures, it looks like the bumper brackets go straight out to the bumper. Do they then have a bend and slot at the bumper end to allow for aligning the bumper with the bed/body?

You'll need to bend out the bumper brackets a bit to wedge the hitch plate in there. if u bend it too much you can use washers or something to fill the gap. Just get one that uses the bottom holes its less of a hassle lol.
