is it really worth it...
ok, so i want my ranger to be a complete sleeper/drift truck. and i found a whole lot of parts for the 4.0. but mine has like 176,000 miles on it. so in your opinion (which i know this can really hard to predict), but do you think it'd be worth it to dump all this money into my engine, or just find a 5.0L out of a mustang and put that in? how much do you think a V8 would go for w/ labor and everything having it put in. as oposed to me doing all the other work to the 4.0

hahahaha good point haha.i plan on doing alot to it in the next few years...i'll have it for long while. i dont mean a professional drift truck..just something thats designed to drift around town...street drifting...i got the rear end to lock up pretty good most of the time...but i'll definately need ful posi. but thats just my goal

The 4.0 is a GOOD motor ( OHV ). I know of 2 trucks that run 11's and 12's inn the quarter with them. I think Gerry from RPS hit low 13's.
Jimmy ( 8secsplash ) is pumping out 450lb/ft on his OHV 4liter. PLEANTY to break the tires free. You should easily be able to make 300 with a 422 cam and the heads/exhaust/intake being done properly. I believe from the factory your engine had 250lb/ft to start with.
The reason I would go with rebuilding your present motor over the v8.. Weight. A 302 and tranny has a LOT more weight then your present engine. Drifting requires a diecent weight balance as well.
The **** end of our trucks can come out VERY easy, especially on na wet surface. Fresh blacktop is a joy! People laughed when I said I drifted a truck..
Its a bit harder then a car. Even though my trucks been lowered, it still sits higher then most cars.
Your going to need a LOT of suspension goodies to stop bodyroll and keep the tires down. I also took most of the flex out of my frame with 2x2 square stock steel cross-members ( not good for offroading at all ).

alright, thanx alot. i planned on getting hedman headers, a cool air intake, and having a local exhaust place bend me up a new dual exit exhaust exiting infront on the rear passenger side wheel. i got to do some more reasearch before i do it, about tubing sizes and backpressure and what not. i planned on getting this lowering kit ( http://store.summitracing.com/partde...DJM-KS3001-3-4 ) from summitracing.com. i need my **** end of my truck to go down at least 2 more inches than the front but i guess that kit will do. i want it level. so what all is necissary to make my 4.0 pump out power like Gerry's and Jimmy's.
