"CLICKING SOUND ON YEAR 2000 ONLY WHEN THE "AIR" (HOT OR COLD" IS ON???
MY YEAR (2000) RANGER MAKES A "CLICK" SOUND ABOUT EVERY 25-30 SECONDS ONLY WHEN THE AIR IS ON. A.C. OR HOT, DOESN'T MATTER, VERY ANNOYING WHEN IDLING IN A PARKING LOT. I HAVE HEARD THIS COMPLAINT FROM MANY OTHER RANGER OWNERS AND JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS? IS SOMETHING BROKEN, OR IS THAT JUST WHAT I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH. ALSO EXACTLY AFTER THE "CLICK" SOUND FEELS LIKE THE RPM'S JUMP A SMALL BIT. BUT AS SOON AS YOU TURN YOUR "AIR ****" TO THE "OFF" POSITION, NO MORE"CLICK" SOUNDS?

But it is cycling even when I don't have the AC on? Just regular air on low will create that "click" sound. I just can't see someone buying this truck brand new off the lot in 2000 making that noise. If I don't have the **** switched to AC, shouldn't the AC Compressor be shut off? Yes coming from under the hood, sounds likie driver side up by the firewall closest to me in the driver seat.

Hey there, could you give me a description of where the compressor is and where I could un hook it during colder months like you do (If I choose to do that). BECAUSE IT IS SO ANNOYING OF A CLICKING SOUND!!) lol, But if you have the time, just a brief desc. of where the compressor is and how to unplug it would be great, Thanks for your help, And if I choose to do that I'll make sire to keep in mind about the 10 mins about every 2 weeks or so (for the lubrication). Thank you very much! Jason

Start the truck , set the heater controls to DEFROST or A/C.
Get out and open the hood.
Make sure you use the prop rod to keep it open.
Now look for the little wheely thing that spins every time you hear that nasty , annoying , terrible , awful , rotten , no good makes you want to go ballistic , clicking sound .
That is the clutch pulley that drives the A/C compressor.
The plug is connected to the round thing it hangs off the front of.

Wow, Thanks guys for the jelp, it's been months. Everything is fine with the Compressor, I just un hook the Electrical Wires from it when it gets cold, no biggie, but I do re-connect it every once ina while so it can cycle a few times during the Cold Season.
Just wanted to say Thank you for the Knowledge, I forgot to say Thank you, it's been months since this question I had. Thanks
