Power Windows, Part 3 (Install Phase 2, Strange Stuff. Not 56K friendly!)

Well everyone, got my power windows installed this weekend. Here's a pic of my truck after I was done:

Just kidding. The installation went will, with a few minor roadblocks.

The hardest part of this installation was figuring out the bolt pattern for the new regulators. Once that was figured out, it really was just bolt-on-and-go. I ended up having my little brother hold the windows. I tried the masking tape approach, but ended up having to coordinate moving the window and threading the regulator at the same time. Not easy.

Once it was in, I plugged in the control and tested it. It worked! Then I discovered a slight flaw in my setup. When the window was fully down, I noticed the motors worked harder and I actually blew the 10A fuse for them. Turns out the rivets that hold the window to the track were rubbing on the new arm. So, I had to drill down one rivet on each door so it would clear. Talk about nerve racking! :Eyecrazy: Anyone else have this problem?????

The whole thing took the better part of an afternoon, but the end result was well worth it. Now I just need to tidey up the wiring, grease the window tracks and figure out what to do about the dust panels. Anyone know where I can get replacements? The old ones have long lost their sticky.

Awesome job. The A1 setup didn't have the rivet problem because the plate used to mount to in the inside of the door had studs made into that plate that stuck out towards the inside of the truck. You just had to put the nuts on it, so it wasn't to the inside of the door, it was towards the outside.

This was an A1 kit. Not sure if I follow you 100%. I mounted it flush with the inside of the door panel, couldn't be more towards the inside of the truck if I tried.

It was an A1 kit but you had rivets?

My A1 kit required me to drill out the rivets holding the stock manual regulator. Then I used holes already in the door frame that studs came through so I could hold the regulator plate assembly firmly to the door. There were no rivets sticking out in the way of the arm. That's what I didn't follow.

Still looking for suggestions on replacing the dust covers.

Also, I've determined that I need to look into limiting moter actuation. Can anyone recommend some current limiting switches to stop the windows when they are all the way up or down?

Anyone ever try a 529T? http://www.millionbuy.com/dei529t.html Looks kinda what I'm looking for, just wonder how practical it would be. I need something that I can install in the doors. I don't want to remove the entire harness and try to cram more wires into it.
