rear window replacement ordeal. Advice needed.

Hey guys I'll get some pics up asap.

As some of you may have read, my rear window got broken a few days ago... I took it into a near by glass shop to have it replaced... and wow.... what a disaster

First off they put in some tacky, low-cost (to them) aftermarket slider...its a glue in only, doest line up properly, and has a huge gap on the inside between the glass and the trim.....

Next, they tried to pry out the old window... but didnt seem to know it is a bolt in unit... so they tried to pry it in about 7-8 places and each time dented the cab of the truck.

Body shop estimate for damage: $1230.76 (canadian prices here, at a very good body shop)
OEM replacement window from + installed by Mazda: $450
Vehicle rental (while its in the body shop) $377.50
Can of wheel cleaner they stole: $7.99
Refund for the POS window they put in: $307.00

Now what do I do here? I dont want this glass shop touching my truck again, they want to just pay the body shop and replace the window themselves.

Frankly.. i want a Cheque for the above costs....

Help me out here. How do i go about just getting the $$$ out of them?

I have a friend of the family who does body work..but i would like to get something out of this... they %&^$ed up my brand new truck!

If they don't want to work with you and get you the money to repair the damages I would take them to court. That is complete BS, what a bunch of idiots.

Have you contacted your insurance? They may take care of it for you depending on your coverage.

It's very unlikely that they will just cut you a cheque. The best that you can expect is that they pay your repair shop directly based on the estimates you provided.
I had something similar happen, and I when I brought it up with the manager he told me to get and estimate from a body shop and then he just paid the shop for the repair.

Also, I doubt that they will pay for a new Mazda window and refund the cost of the crap one they tried to install. But it's worth a try... if you can get them to pay for both, then all the better!

I would go to your insurance and tell them what happened... they won't want to pay so they should go after the shop they way they would go after another driver... you could try getting the owner of the shop to pay for the damages..... but I doubt that'll get far... telling them you're not letting them touch the truck and you will fight for them to pay the damages may make a difference....

Sounds like the bodyshop now owes you free labour and reimburse you the cost of the rental vehicle. You should just have to pay for the window itself, IMO.

well they are willing to work with me on this, they will pay for the damages... but im thinking.. hey what the heck is in this for me? They damaged my brand new truck and have put me at a huge inconvenience.....

I dont see how i could just say "ya fix up the stuff you $%^%ed up and i'll be happy".

there has got to be some kind of compensation here.

They say they will put in an OEM window "this time"...at no extra cost... but they always told me it would be an OEM window....

I mean a guy has to gain something out of having his property damaged.

I dont think i should be paying for anything, and I've got to come out ahead in this some how.

Frankly, I'd just be happy if they fixed it properly and didn't screw me around.

I'd just ask to be compensated for what extra monies I paid which I really didn't need to spend, such as the rental car cost, when they shoul dhave supplied you a loaner, or covered the rental cost. Because your vehicle is being repaired, why should you have to bite the cost for renting a vehicle?

I don't think you'll get anything beyond repair... if I were you I'd consider no money out of pocket a good deal... take what you can get..

i wouldn't let those hack jobs go anywhere near your truck after they effed it up the first time. i would get the money from them and take it somewhere else. how does a place like that even stay in business?
