Good night Ranger.

So my 160,404 mile Ranger is being laid to rest on Tuesday.

Transmissions going out, rear brakes don't work (rusted out), the shackle that holds the rear pass. side leaf spring on is torn, all my struts and shocks are gone, my ball joints need replacing, all 6 or however many U-joints are on this thing are gone, driver side front wheel bearing is gone, and my steering knuckle has rusted away.

Man, and all this time I thought my transmission problems were just the fact I had a 17 speed tranny. I didn't know that was slippage.

Anyone got a decently priced 4x4 in Florida for sale? That uhh...works?

I will say this now, and swear upon it. I will never buy another used vehicle with an automatic transmission until I've got a family or something of the sort. Older automatic trannys aren't meant to last long. Especially on a 4wd truck.

I've got a 91 with 190k on it and it's still runnin strong. Maybe you could find a junkyard near ya and get the parts you need to fix her up..

good news, getting a new tranny + install for free. Dad's friend owes him a couple favors :)

I'm not too optimistic however, this is the same guy who did my wheel bearings...and forgot to tighten the bearing nut, then said I could drive it for a weekend.

Whatever. He'll probably just end of putting saw dust in the current tranny as a temp. fix.

We'll see.

i am not trying to rip on ya but wow it sound like normal maintness that need to be take on the vehical was not done. you should have had a few sets of shocks by now. ball joints/tie rods at 160000 should be due for the secound set. u-joints should have been replaced around 100000 so those should be fine...i dont know she sure sounds like alot of the stuff was just skipped i mean i could be wropng its not my truck....

If you do all the maintaince when it was needed to be done... It will cost less in the long run... and it will last alot longer

...I know. But that's what I get.

02 sensors are still factory originals, so were the spark plugs!
