I was under the impression that all FX4 level 2s have 4.10's. I wouldn't give them over $13K for that truck. I gave $12K for my 2002 FX4 4 years ago with 40K miles on it. I did the deal because they gave me what I wanted for my trade in.

Either the axle has been changed or is isn't a level II.

Quote:
The FX4 Ranger was introduced in 2002 and always came with 4.10 gears only. The 31-spline Torsen 8.8-inch axle came only with the 2002 FX4 and 2003-up FX4 Level II and more recently was a separate option. The 2003-up FX4 (non-Level II) is essentially the same as the 1998-2002 Off-Road except that a regular Ford limited-slip in a regular 8.8-inch was included.

yeah it could just be stickers :P

but since i have no clue what the differences between a regular fx4 and a fx4 level 2 are. does anyone have a list of some of the minor differences I could go look at and see? or anywhere else there should be a LEVEL 2 printed somewhere?

if it has a black interior instead of grey it will be a level 2, thats your easiest way to find out. as for the torsen diffs it was only the first run in 2002 that had grenading issues, ever since good luck breaking one..

the level 2 will also have stainless tow hooks, bilstein shocks and the chrome shifter with leather boot

with how my lifes takin a slight uplift in luck I'm looking at buying it.

$15,350 is their price as of right now. Their wanting $370-$380 a month for a payment with $500 down, with a cosigner. or $3000 down with no cosigner.

68,6XX miles.

4.0soch

4x4

31in all terrains on 15in alcoas.

all the goodie really you want.

Very clean truck (pic below)

Now I am going to talk with my parents about it I'm hoping to talk them down to $15,000 because I noticed the rear tires will need replaced probably with-in a year, which I meantioned to them while discussing over the truck. What else can I do to wheel and deal them lower?

I have a bit of cash approx $5,000. and I have a friend who would by my truck in payments for roughly $3,500. so we are looking at around $8,500 in a short amount of time. My bank would probably give me a small loan to cover the rest.

Everyone give me the pros cons of these trucks. What you like what you don't like.

I'm really liking this truck so make me even more positive that I want it lol.

Idk I've just got so much on my mind because I'm starting to like it so much. Any other words of wisdom from anyone here would be appreciated thanks alot guys!

On March 1, 2005, I bought a 2004 Ranger FX4 Level II, only options it didn't have was High Priced Vinyl (aka, leather) and a stereo upgrade to 6-disk. It had not been wrecked, I did my homework and I personally inspected the vehicle to death for any evidence of any body or other damage. I do have an edge, I've done a ton of car work, including body so it's about impossible to fool me on vehicle repairs and all that crap. There was a tad over 1,000 miles on the clock. I paid $15,000 cash and I made the 3,300 mile drive home. It was kinda nice getting a X-country cruise in basically a new ride, not too many people get to do that in their lives.

I have to wonder, why are you even considering paying too much money for what's nearly a seven year old Ranger?

Level II has:

*4.10's and a Torsen

*Captains chairs in black with either red or blue inserts

*Tow Hooks, chrome plated

*The Alcoa centerline style rims

*BFG All Terrain KO's as OEM. This means, there will be a special tire pressure sticker inside the fuel cap door.

*Minimum stereo will be CD with MP3. Mine was also dual media, not sure if 2005 had that.

*Bilstein shocks.

*Gauges with silver band around the periphery.

*Nose will be painted to match body and have black grille.

*Skid Plates

*Carpet, and floor matts that will hodl the spillage of a couple of those 24oz beer cans without making a mess.

The above was standard in 04 and there were practically no options; 2005 may vary. In 2004, if you wanted the wheels, the BFG KO,s, and the Bilstein's out the door, it had to be a Level II or an adder at the dealer, for $.

*****If you can't get it for a fair price, then it's time to leave the SMALL town, LOW volume, HIGH markup dealer (they go hand-in-hand) and find a dealer or better yet, private party that works the other way. These are older trucks, they can be found off the dealer lot and without the dealer markup. Don't feel bad about not buying local, but if yo buy it your ultimate goal is to make that salesman feel real bad for trying to sell it for what he's asking now.

no manual t-case in 04+ the fact that it has the black interior alone makes it 99% positive to be level 2

thats insane that you got it for so cheap. normal rangers are quite expensive.

just checked on clist.

2002 salvaged title supercab xlt 4 door 4.0 4x4 115k miles. $6500

2004 super cab xlt 4door 4.0 4x4 86k miles $12000

2004 super cab xlt 4door 4.0 4x4 100k miles $11000

its just around here rangers are priced high well through their life i come across early 2000s with 150k miles still going for over 6K it seems.

Check around

Check out craigslist (or chaigslook to check nationwide) or the classifieds, you can beat that price with an individual seller. At least if the individual lies he's just an amatuer....dealers are professional liars.

That is a Level 2. You would confirm by checking the door and the rear axle for the R7 code.

What are both of your vehicles worth on KBB trade in?

I think i remember seeing an r7 on the door.

but i wouldn't get much for my ranger.

and more than likely can't accurately calculate price on my mustang.

Also that truck has mismatched tires. They either need to put all new BFG KO AT's for their price or knock off $800. Those tires were bullet proof form em so for one or more to go bad means that truck had a single incident that damaged a tire or they never had the tires rotated...... in 68K miles.

If you live with your parents you don't need 3 vehicles, let alone two. Sell them both and buy the Level two, or sell one and trade other for the level 2. Or trade both and finance the rest without a co-signer. Get a loan approved from a credit union before going back. Keep the money for mods.

the rear bfg's need to be replaced. the front kumhos are brand new. i would assume they rotated out the old rear bfgs and put the better bfgs on the back. then were cheapskates and got cheepo kumhos for the front.

the mustang is a vehicle that stays in the storage unit. but for 1 night a week basically and for any carshows. and my ranger would get sold asap. to a friend who wants/needs a slightly better winter vehicle.

Well the tag on the axle wasn't super legible and it look as if it had a 3.73 l/s rear end. but hell it could be 4.10s l/s according to the axle code.

but wisc is a bit of a drive lol
