my son has a 2000 ranger 2.5 automatic. He tried to put it in reverse and nothing and no forward gear until clicking off overdrive then it goes forward and still no reverse. Everything i have read so far is either a servo problem and or a solenoid in the valve body. Would it be worth my time to have the valve body sent out and get tested. There was no metal chunks when i dropped the pan and fluid was clean. The only thing I haven't done yet is check is the bands but I think the valve body has to come off though. I tried to find older posts but only found one but not alot of details with follow up with fix. Any opinions would be appreciated Thank you.

 

Update I got the valve body off and found 3 places where the gasket is blown out and a big chunk out by where the reverse servo is so my next step is to have the valve body tested for any leaks in the solenoids even though they ohmed out ok. Any opinions on my findings i might be missing or not thinking about.
