4 Wheeler window saver

I just got a 4 wheeler and didn't like that it just barely fits in the back of the Ranger. I decided to build a little bump stop. Its not anything pretty but it works. I accidently already tested it out for function.

Its just 2, 2x4's nailed together. One was 60" and the other 54" nailed together in the shape of an L. After dropping it in I loaded the 4 wheeler. When I got the 4 wheeler loaded I stood up and accidently hit the hand throttle and I drove into it. I heard the wood crunch but it kept my winch hook and front bumper from going through the rear window.

Here is a pic of my 2, 4 wheelers together.

Can't. Right there is when the front tire just drops over the wheel well.

What machine do you have? Do you just leave the quad sitting on the wheel wells? Thats one of the reasons I haven't gotten a tool box as most of my machine will be hanging out of the bed.

or you could rest the front tires on the wheel wells and get a tailgete extender from a sport track.

i agree, even with the wood, it looks too close to the glass. what if you put a piece of wood in front of the glass?

well make it so it sits on the edge of the wheel well then.. I'm gonna go ahead and say thats way too close still.. whats keeping the winch hook from swinging into the glass?

or better yet get a little trailer, they cant cost too much.

I'd get a small trailer. You could buy one for the cost of replacing the back window, and save the headache.

The hook isnt loose like a truck winch. By the looks of it he has the line pulled right into the fairlead. There really is almost 0 chance of it going into the back window like this.

Ive thrown my quad in the back of my truck for 2 years now. Only problems I have had are the ramps kicking out on me.

Just like this one except mine has mesh sides and a tall ramp gate. I believe it's rated for 3500 pounds.

You can get a little trailer from Lowes or Tractor Supply for less then $1,000 and still have money to customize it. Thats what i did with my 4x8...

i put an 07' grizzly 700 4x4 in the back of my short box ranger before and its a tight fit.. but the front tires fit between the front of the bed and the wheel well without hitting the rear window just fine. and the floorboards fit between the wheel wells. but i did put a couple of 2x4's between the front of bed and the wells and set the front tires of the quad on them to bring the front end up.. its also a good idea to put the quad in park and/or the parking brake so she dont slide around, and also strap the thing F-tight.

and about the tailgate issue.. the first time i loaded it up (i borrowed the quad yamaha when i was working there and they have a fancy ramp the same height as a tailgate) the tailgate of the truck closed no problems, but after that i had to leave it open because the quad wasnt far enough forward.. but it wont go anywhere if you strap it down well, i ran 1 ratchet strap on each corner of the grizz. there was no sliding around, i could grab the quad and shake it and it would shake the truck with it..

also if your gonna use wood, i'd suggest adding some more to it because its just a matter of time before they snap. since i haul lots of quads, bikes, lawnmowers and crap im going to put a headache rack on my truck..

i woulda just been super ghetto with plywood between the quad and the backwindow but your way seems to work too

the time i borrowed a quad there was no chance of it going threw the window

and i think there are a couple members here who have had their quads go threw the window
