Question on Ranger purchase 2008 or 2011?

The question is this: I'm looking at two Rangers, both XLTs, same engine and drivetrain, same price, even the same color. 2011 has 27,000 miles, in great condition. The 2008 has only 2700 miles (not as misprint). Which one would you choose and why? I'll attach photos of each, the 2008 is the one with the bumper guard. I'm tending toward the 2011, even with more miles.

My feelings also, the mods are too much.

Get the 11. It has fogs. Yea, that sounds weird but I like most vehicles better with foglights

Do the 11. The 08 is five years old with only 2700 miles in general old vehicles with low miles tend to have more problems than newer ones with lots of miles. My 03 barely got driven by the first owner and i bought it at 5 years old with low miles and that thing leaked from every seal on it. So my vote is 11.

I own a 2011 XLT Ranger 4 cyl 5-speed - it's been totally trouble free. I'd also recommend the '11 - you get a few goodies the '08 didn't have, I think - like serius radio, side airbags, standard trailer hitch, more bolts to hold the bed down...

Doesn't the 11 have rear disc brakes while the 08 still has the drum brakes? The disc brakes are big plus IMO. I would not be concerned about 27,000 miles if it is still running good and is in good condition.

I'd go 08 also. regardless of disc over drum, there is that shitty traction control all the 09+ guys complain about. 08 should have Sirius as I had it new and they won't stop harassing me.
If you're looking at putting in different seats then you won't have to deal with the side airbags on the 08. 11' you will.

Id go for the 11. Later down the road it will have a better resale value being a newer model if anything because its a new truck.

why do so many people consider resale value when making a purchase?

let me re-word that.

why do so many people buy things expecting they are going to be selling it later down the road.

Maybe its just me, but if im buying something thats a large chunk of change, its going to be something i want to keep, and use. not something i will want to sell later.

Life happens, I almost bought an awd fusion but the resale on the ranger was more. I went this route because I wanted a truck, when I have to sell it for a larger family orientated truck. I'll make a little more then the fusion.
I'm sure if you did the stats, you would find they are bought by males who buy rangers are younger and single without family plans. A few years down the road these same guys start setting down and they have to trade it in. Thats a fact! Start a poll in here and see how many have sold for that reason exactly. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 members who did this.

I do agree, I bought my ranger outright and didnt lease it. $28k is huge and I wanted to call it my own. It is, paid off last year. It's a good feeling owning something like this and not having the hassle of bringing it back every two/three years and trading. That can be nice too if you want a new car every couple years but at what cost?

Unusually low miles on a non-collector type vehicle is not always a good purchase if you are going to start driving it daily.
Very low miles for the year means the engine and drive train sat for extended periods, engine/trans seals and bearings get dry and then used with minimal lubrication.
Wheel bearings and seals are dried out as well and then used.

So a very low mile vehicle can be a PITA if you change it to a daily driver.
