Rack & Pinion Conversion, '96 Ranger

It's been a while, just too many irons in the fire. This is the best go-to forum that I could think of..

Just a quick question, Like to upgrade to a rack & Pinion steering. Is it possible to convert using the rack and pinion from a later Ranger?? has anyone here done it already?? Thanks Much,

2wd or 4wd?

I don't think the TTB style front end lends itself to a rack and pinion style steering setup.

I had that thought on my 94 lotta years back and asked that same question on a sister site that is no longer up.

The responses I got was NO because it would cause DANGEROUS bump steer.

The ONLY way to do it would be to put the front sub (frame section cab forward) from a 98 up Ranger onto your 96.

correct. The pivot point on the I beam and the pivot on the rack do not line up, as such their arc of travel is way off
