Which Ranger should I get?

All,

Trying to buy a Ranger. Understand I just need it for a drive once a week to NY about 1.5 hours from me, and a just around the house stuff. So I dont need 4wd.

These rangers are for sale around me, although lots of miles on them, was wondering if they are worth it. Only want to spend 4-6k.

Used 2006 Ford Ranger NJ 4.0L 6Cyl. Fuel Injected Automatic With Overdrive 4 Dr Super Cab Pickup 4X4 4WD Ford Ranger for sale in New Jersey at Circle Dodge Brick NJ.

2002 Ford Ranger XLT

What do you guys think? To many miles? When does the tranny start going on these things? Are they asking the right price? Thanks

I have to wonder if the maintenance on those vehicles was really kept up to date.

Used 1998 Ford Ranger XLT

Well, I am having my mechanic check them out before buying. Both places said no problem. What do you think about the price? Just dont want to spend 4-6k then get it and month later it needs a trans or head gasket. I know you can't no for sure, just wondering if this is a history with all rangers having these problems at this age.

whats so hard, get the fx4. it might have a fe more miles, but id take the 4x4 over a 4x2 anyday. or jsut wait and get a better one. Either way, id get 4.0 4x4. You live in NJ, so iI'm assuming ya'll get alot of snow. 4x4 FTW

mikedaruke 06-09-2010 01:34 PM

True, I head the 4.0 is a pain to change the timming chain as there is two? The back one you have to pull the engine?

01RangerEdge 06-09-2010 02:16 PM

get the 4x4

mad hatter 06-09-2010 02:19 PM

would also go with the 4x4
trade in value is more when the time comes

haydnclement4 06-09-2010 02:44 PM

you may not think so buty you will use the 4by 4 and will be happy you got it...

Downey 06-09-2010 02:54 PM

the the 06

zabeard 06-09-2010 03:14 PM

the 2006 by far is the best choice in the two

ShadowRanger08 06-09-2010 03:15 PM

i think im going to say the 06 too, it does have more mileage, but 4x4 will be pretty damn helpful in snow, although my 2wd does fine with just some weight in the back...there have been some times where i wish i had 4x4

tractorman 06-09-2010 10:47 PM

4x4!

WillInThe04Ranger 06-09-2010 10:50 PM

get the 06!

ClemsonRanger03 06-09-2010 11:07 PM

why are you buying a ranger to drive long distance? especially a 4.0? talk about wasting gas..

mikedaruke 06-10-2010 07:07 AM

I am not buying it to drive long distance. I am buying it for around the house, but.... since I have it why not take it to ny one day a week and save mileage on my TL which is my baby. I dont have to, but would.
