Man, I just could never give in to the cash for junkers nonsense.....I'd feel dirty taking the money for that program. One more step towards me taxed more for a gas guzzler and none of use being able to buy trucks or what we want......but that's another topic.
Really think it over. There are so many things I sold/gave up for short term gains, but long term was a **** in the bucket. I look back at guns, cars, toys, etc that looked like a lot of money but I'd pay double to have them back. 4500 is a lot of money, but if you think you can swing keeping the truck for fun do it.

But what is the stick on those STI's? 25k? That could build one BA ranger or a nice F150, PSD, Cummins ect. But an STI is probably the only car I would sell my F150 for if I did need a truck just about everyday....My mom has a 2006 Legacy GT.

Just a little FYI. My girl traded in her 1985 Ford Thunderbird doing the program your talking about. It didn't require that she get a new car, just that she cannot get one older then 3 years (at the time the oldest she could get was an 05). Kind of ironic but she ended up with a 2008 Ford Focus.

was it in past couple of weeks? Was it the Obama plan or a local plan by a City? i say this cause Austin has done this on its own. Theirs is not MPG, but emmissions related. I bet hers was a local deal similar to austin. I know theirs is ok for used vehicles.
Then you have to wonder if you can stack them. Add the federal plan to a city plan.

wow, ben. I will never own a Focus/Civic etc to modify.. FCK THAT AND FCK FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.
that being said, a Jetta is fwd but i'm not gonna ghettofy it like that homo fcukus.. **** rice. /rant
you just lost a ton of cool points.. homo
I cant keep the truck, i have no money saved up for a down payment.. and there's no way i can afford car payments and build a truck.
about the gas guzzler ****.. In a few years, like i've said, I'll trade it in on a diesel guzzling Cummins.. but for now I'm lining up road trips. it'll be cheaper to drive than buy a $200 plane ticket ha
yea, its pretty rough.. breaks a lot of ****.
STi's are 35-36

For 4500 bucks that you (might) get for your truck, you could go out and buy an older model civic/focus/corolla/camry/whatever that you will still be able to drive the **** out of, and then when you sell it, you'll get a greater % of your money back (newer cars depreciate faster). That way you won't be tossing thousands of dollars out on a new car AND you get to keep your ranger. Plus, you won't have a car payment (unless you need to borrow to get the DD). Buying a new car when you have no money is just plain stupid. Buying a brand new car in general is just a bad decision, especially if you don't plan on driving it until the wheels fall off and trade it in in a few years.

I'm looking at the obama plan.. I'm going to talk to a family friend who's a salesman at Don Hewlet tomorrow about a job so I'll talk to him about the bills if i have time.. hopefully he can sell me a Volkswagon and get me a sweet deal, thats if I don't end up working there

i just want it gone..
i want to start over
and i want something nice.
i have no way to get something else right now. i guess i gotta talk to my parents and see how long i can drive my mom's car.. If i can take it for a while then that'll give me time to save up money for another car so i can keep the Ranger.
Kevan (badkarma) has his old 96? Ranger in pieces.. cab here, frame there, engine/trans there.. I think i might take him up on his offer, and build something on the frame, then drop the cab on. haha

Before I ended up buying my two-year-old used Ranger, I was looking at brand new ones.
I had the Ford dealer down to 14,200 on a 4X2 Sport with the Power Equipment Group and Auto Tranny. Take off the gov't credit and you're under 10K for a new car.
If you're ok with a stick and crank windows, it'd be cheaper yet.

I'm not gonna buy a new ranger and build that, then beat it! are you crazy? that and if i'm gonna spend 16 grand on a truck, its gonna be an 03 Lariat 7.3 PSD with VERY low miles.
I'm talking to my buddy who's got the truck that hauled mine out to Katemcy, and for some reason he's actually convincing, and hasn't said anything smart.

getting 40-50mpg.. getting to wyoming AND back on less gas than it takes the ranger to get out of texas alone? I have a bunch of places i want to go.
