that aint exactly true...12v are simpler to upgrade on. like said before all mechanical. bigger injectors, slide fuel plate and bigger turbo, and make sure to get the head work done or you gonna pop it. Now 24v is just a easy to upgrade just cost more. Best thing to do with them is either edge juice with attitude or dragcomp chip then stack a smarty box on top of that. Then injectors get a fass fuel system then if you wanted to bigger turbo.

^ what he said
although ill go on the other side of the spectrum, im not a fan of all the diesels i see running around with hard tonneaus and no tow package ..... im a firm believer that your vehicle should be used for the purpose intended ..... ive even gotten into arguments with my dad over my moms pos 98 volvo xc wagon that goes into the shop at least once ever 2 months or so because something else broke and im like sell the damn thing you guys never go to the snow anymore no reason for the awd wagon and the **** poor mileage it gets. (i have yet to break 18 mpg hwy the times ive borrowed it)

Best choice you'll make getting a Cummins. I've got two of them myself. And theres another 3 in our family as well. We got a 1994 12valve, 2000 24valve, (2) 2006 5.9 Common Rails, and 2007 5.9Common Rail.
For the 12valves you can do mechanical horsepower addictions, turbo, injectors, fuel plate, ect. For the electrical ones get an edge juice with attitude chip, and stack it with the smarty programer and watch out.

how about a 24v with a p-pump? throw in an nv5600 now where talking.
that being said. if you just want a diesel to blow black smoke. please for the love of god DONT get a diesel. it makes diesel owners look bad. and makes you look like a punk kid.
not too mention high cost of maintenance and fuel. only way you will save on a diesel over a gas motor is if you drive say 20,000 a year or tow 14,000# + on a regular basis. otherwise get a nice gas truck.

my buddy's got an 01 dodge with a cummins in it. he gets 35 mpg on the highway with it and 25 in the city. all he has is an after market fuel injection pump, bigger turbo, quadzilla chip(from what i've been told thats the best chip in the market for those model cummins) cold air intake and stacks in the back. the truck is crazy fun. we took it to the dyno and hes making 410 whp with a clutch that was slipping. From what my friends say quadzilla is the best chip for the 98.5-2002 dodge diesels. he said the best chip for the high pressure common rail cummins is the smarty chips. but yeah i would love to have a diesel too
