2011 from what I hear because f150 sales are down and ranger sales are up due to gas prices.

I know they extended it to 09 because of a union contract that got extended but who knows after that.

Welcome to this year. If you spent less time screwing off and "terrorizing" as you said yourself, you might have used some of that education to READ the internet or magazines to see this has been discussed before. I know it has been covered numerous times on RPS.

It's to bad we cant have this ranger,

https://www.ford.com.br/sr_ranger_default.asp

The engine choices are the 2.3l and the 3.0l Turbo Diesel. This is the ranger from Brazil, but here is the one from Austrailia. The engine choices on this one is the 2.5l diesel or the 3.0l diesel.

Great response Yetti, and I third the thought that they've been living under rocks.

Basically the Ranger was scheduled to be discontinued after the 2009 model year, BUT there are 3 main reasons why they decided to extend the Ranger's production.
1. Sales due to gas mileage/prices. The Ranger sales have been declining for 5+ years, and finally they had an increase in sales (January through June of 08 compared to January through June of 07, Ranger sales increased slightly). Sales were holding steady so Ford used their noggin and decided to continue the Ranger UNTIL they have the replacement model ready, instead of having a gap between the "end" of the Ranger and the start of whatever model is replacing it.

2. EPA regulations. It wasn't mentioned, but EPA regulations are tightening, and having the Ranger around helps the Average MPG for the "fleet". The Ranger helps compensate MPG for the Super Duties, etc.

3. I mentioned it in #1, but they don't have the Ranger's replacement/remodel ready yet. So... they decided since sales weren't so bad, why not continue the truck until they have another model ready to take its place? There is alot of varying speculation on what's going to replace the Ranger, and there hasn't been a confirmation by Ford either way. Talk is either a replacement 'compact truck", something like a redesign. The other idea was for a "midsize", categorizing the truck with the Colorado/Canyon, Dakota, and Tacoma, and Frontier. The idea was mentioned that the midsize option would be badged as a "F100".

honestly i think that would be kinda cool, just looking at what chevy has done with the colorado, i don't think an f-100 would be too bad, the dodge dakota has already evolved from a compact to a mid-size, and the Tacoma and Frontier are mid-size already, maybe Ford is just trying to keep up with the rest of 'em. I still think they should stick with the legendary ranger but hey, do we really have a say in it?
