Getting bad gas milage

Getting bad gas milage
I have a 1998 ranger with a 3.0. It has 189,000 miles on it and my gas milage keeps getting worse. It starts good and runs good (nothing noticable when running or idoling) The problem is, it's getting about 18 miles/gallon, down from about 23miles/gallon when I got it used.
I have had it to the shop several times for this problem and for tune ups They told me the problem was the ECM and the coolant temp sensor. They changed the coolant temp sensor and flashed the ECM and said that would fix the problem, it didn't.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so can you give me some tips of help fix it.
Some guys at work told me to change the oxygen sensors and clean the mass flow sensor at the air filter.
Oh yeah, the garage said that no codes was coming up on the computer.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Kwdaye

Ranger Guy is right about gas milage going down in the winter. But 5 MPG seems a bit extreme.
When I first got my 02 XLT 3.0 automatic, it was getting about 17-18 on the hi-way.
I was only able to go about 275 miles on a tank.
The truck had 22,000 miles on it. I ran a can of fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank.
Waited 3000 miles and did it again. Mileage improved to just over 20. I now routinely get 315-325 miles on a tank.

'00 4.0 auto 4wd. I used to get about 15/19 (town/road) but now its pretty consistant around 10-13 regardless of weather, season, planetary alignment. etc. I've replaced fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cleaned the MAF, tire pressure, alignment, seafoam. Even cleaned the floor mats... Mine idles pretty rough too. 3 garages have looked at it and said its fine. BS. I'm not trolling junk yards looking for another MAF for cheap to swap out and test. WIll pull the O2's when it warms up. Anyonne know a good priest that performs exorcisms?
