Rear window - solid to sliding
Rear window - solid to sliding
SO i read a buncha threads and need some clarification.
I have a 01 reg cab edge with a solid window id like to put in a sliding window.
If I read the threads right i can use any sliding window from 98+? Doesn't matter if its from reg cab or extended cab?

got it. I went Saturday to local yard, had 12 rangers. 3 were already missing windows, had 3 sliding windows but one was so sun baked there was hardly any weather stripping left, the other was in OK shape but weather stripping starting to dry rot, last one was perfect or so i thought till i found the panel behind the drivers head was spider cracked...Rest were solid windows/pre 98 sliders.
can you get new weather stripping around the slider window or is it part of the window? Also where dos one get the new butyl tape?

It has a plastic molding around the outside, on the outside part of the window. The hardest part of the swap is getting all of the old butyl off of the window opening on the truck and the new window. I got butyl tape off of ebay, I have a hard time finding that in person around here for some reason.
Do NOT get the butyl tape in 3/8" like what comes with new windows ordered from Ebay. It's took thick. I used the 3/8" butyl rope on mine and it was a nightmare to get to squish down flat where the window fit flush against the body. The install was done in 90+ degree summer heat too. I tried 4x4 lumber placed on the bottom and top edges of the window with ratchet straps to pull it in to the cab and it still wouldn't seat after 3 days in direct sun. I even ordered the good 3M brand butyl rope/tape.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd use the 1/4" butyl rope.
