Bluebook/value questions
If someone were to advertise their vehicle and it has a brand new engine in it, what mileage do you use to figure out it's worth?? Body/frame mileage or engine mileage?? The entire drivetrain has less than 20k on it. In the ad and to the prospective buyers, of course I'll say the miles on the truck and the miles on the engine. That's stupid not to mention it.
Just curious if anyone knows anything about this department on newer vehicles.
Thanks.

If you are trying to figure out book value, use the current odometer mileage. If you want real life value, understand that the book price is only a guide, and usually is much higher than the price you can sell the vehicle for. Be sure to tell prospective buyers what has been done to maintain and update the vehicle.

The only problem is that most buyers will figure that the vehicle wasn’t maintained properly if the engine was replaced. Like I said, I’d just explain to them why it was replaced. They might understand or they might be turned away by it figuring that it will happen again. You never know about people.

If I was looking and say that the engine and everything was replaced I would be worried about what the truck has been through, how well the work was done, etc. Not to mention the miles on everything else.
I know that sounds discouraging, but that's just how I would think if I scanned across an add, so be descriptive IMO.

Milage in ad should match odometer or many will shy off. I check Edmonds, NADA, and Kelly blue book. Use the private party sale number & be conservative when you evaluate condition & you should arrive at a reasonable "taking" price. Raise the asking price a bit above "taking" price to provide some room to negotiate.
Good luck!

Yeah.... Just sucks fixing ford's factory design eff-up's doesn't gain me any....actually loses me some. I actually made it WAY more reliable, brand new, yet I get the pineapple shoved up backwards. It's BS but I suppose I gotta live with it.
Thanks for all the input everyone.

Some of it will be the quality of your work and if you have pics during the swap that'll definitely help. I actually traded my Ranger to a guy with an F150 that was needing to downsize. I think he was a little unsure of owning a modded truck (the twin stick swap) until I showed him all the pics I had of the parts and the swap. After that he had no problem making a deal.
It really does come down to the buyer. If I were a buyer again, you better believe I'd be researching the options and downfalls of the type of rig I'm looking at. I still say that if I knew what I know now back then, I'd be in an OHV '00 and just front end swapped it. If I were to sell it, you better believe I'd be disclosing everything and heck, I'd even give him an external harddrive full of it's progress pics. lol.

Went wheelin' again this week with an old friend in his truck and it really got me thinking just how much I miss not caring about the truck's prettiness. And it's an underpowered 4cyl tacoma with 5.13/.29's and 35's and a narrowed HPd44.
