First year of the Stroked 2.3l Lima engine, giving it 2.5l displacement.

Reliable as any Lime engine, which is VERY reliable.
Not a powerhouse but can put up some decent MPG numbers
8 spark plugs, some of which are very hard to get to, so you will often find a different brand spark plug in a few of the harder to get at places, lol, PO didn't change them.......ever.
Used until mid-2001 when Rangers got the DOHC 2.3l Duratec 4cyl engines

1995 to 2001 4cy Rangers used the 4R44E automatic trans, good transmission but still an automatic so needs to be kept cool, 2 transmission coolers so add 1
If rebuilt it needs a FULL rebuild like all automatics, not just bands, clutches and servos, thats a partial rebuild, and trans will fail again in 12 to 18 months

1998 was start of 3rd generation Ranger body style which lasted until last Ranger was made, 2012.

1998 was first year of the Returnless fuel system, so runs 65psi fuel pressure
1998 saw speed sensor removed from trans(2WD) and the ABS sensor on rear axle was used for speedo, GEM Module did the speed correction.

4 Cyl Rangers had a balancer on the driveshaft by the transmission, the rubber inside could rot and cause vibration, it can be removed and not replaced
