Registration question
Hello everyone at RF. I heard recently that there is a way you can set up your registration so that you only have to do it once and that's it:biggthump. Does any one know how to do this or even if it's possible?

If you talking license plates, I've never heard anything like that. I know you can do it via mail or on the internet or even the auto club in Calif. But you still have to renew EVERY year.

The only thing I can think of any where near that would be if you put historical tags on it. but here in Ohio the automobile needs to be 25+ yrs. old
and can olny be driven to car shows and or parades. Although I've known people to drive'em more than that. Historical License Plates |
In california the only thing you can get permanent plates for is trailers.

......damn.

It would be something and individual state did, nothing nationwide. And You probably heard wrong, no state would ever do something like that.

Pretty much every state or province requires a vehicle to undergo a technical inspection before the new owner can register it. From there, I think you can only register a vehicle for up to 2 years before you need to renew the registration stickers.
I just had my truck inspected in Ontario and it passed, and 2 weeks ;ater I moved to Alberta, and I needed another inspection done before I could register it here in Alberta, and I had to pay for 1 year registration, but I get to send my old Ontario plates back home and I get a refund on the remaining time for my registration sticker. Once you own the vehicle and the inspection is completed and the vehicle is then plated, your only responsibility is to renew the plate sticker when it is due. Most places only require a vehicle to be inspected when it changes owners. |
