High RPM's at every single start up

Guys, need your help here.

My truck on every start up, the RPM's will rise to about 1500 or more, then slowly lower to about 1200 and then after about 4-5 minutes, it will drop to 1000 and after a longer while, and driving it, it will drop to 750.

It does that every single time, it doesn't matter if the truck was driven before (warmed up) or not (cold start).

Does anybody have an answer for this?

I just don't like it to be to accelerated for too long, it's a waste of gas, It's also annoying because I do several short trips (less than 5 minutes), and then I have to start it again, and again, high RPM's.

The check engine light is not on, once the rpm's drop, the engine is super steady, no rough idle.

Tell me what do you guys think I can do to fix this? or is this something very common on Rangers and I will have to live with it?...

Thanks...

Completely normal sounding to me

I mean the RPMs you declared are exactly correct

yeah that sounds normal, mine doesn't take that long but the rpm's do change. Long as there's no CEL and it runs fine, nothing should be wrong.

Mine does the exact same, same RPM's also. Runs fine, no CEL so I'm not worried.

the time it takes to get down to idle is long.

maybe you should clean out your throttle body/maf/all that crap and see if it helps at all.

Should I need to pull the TPS from the throttle body when doing the cleaning?

I mean, the engine is running fine at idle speed, should it be really necessary?

Mine follows that same pattern but it's not as long for each step. Like Andrew said, clean all the intake, throttle body parts and see if that helps at all.

I'm also thinking maybe it has something to do with the coolant temp sensor?

I mean, why does it have to start up at high rpm's every time? and stay for a while, even if the truck has been warmed up before.

I don't know, It's just something I don't like, but I guess will have to live with it...

It might be that... Not sure where it is but I could be worth checking.
