Road Tripping
 

Okay, I have to start this thread with a short summary of my plan. And to point out that yes, I do kind of crazy things sometimes. I'm planning on taking a 7,500-9,500 Mile road trip, expected to last 1-2 months. To take place during this fall (August-October of 2018) from East coast of the United States, to the West coast, but with most of that time spent in the states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

I have a 93' Ranger Splash model. 3.0 V6, manual 5 spd, 2wd, with currently 205K+ miles on it. I've got a camper shell on the back. And I plan on more or less living out of that truck in some fairly remote stretches of those states.
Are there any general suggestions for:
A: Anything above and beyond the usual maintenance I should do for my truck before taking that trip? Parts/tools to swap those parts I'd better have on hand?
B: Anyone who's done something similar have advice on gear to keep handy, or advice at all?
C: Comments on why this may or may not be stupid.

The truck did have the distributor changed out around 190K for the "squeal of death" sound fix. Has a new radiator and heater core as of 2 months ago. Battery is under 3 years old. Shocks replaced 5 years ago. And it gets regular oil changes. (I bought the truck at 160K, since then oil changes every 3K, Filter every other change. Since crossing 200K, I'd planed changes every 5K, with filter every time and "high mileage" Oil.

By way of explanation, back right out of highschool, a buddy of mine made a trip like this 2-3 times in five years. And while I always wanted to go, I never was able to go with him, but he always brought back stories, and photos. My dad had major medical issues during my senior year of highschool, and I ended up having to stay near by to help out, and get a job to help pay bills. Then I had to swap jobs, then that was over, and the next emergency popped, up, then a new job I couldn't take time off from, etc, etc, etc. Now years have passed, and my buddy developed chronic health issues in his mid 20's himself. We talked about it, and he's never going to be in shape to take a trip like that again, and convinced me I'd better take the shot myself, because it was NEVER going to be the best time to go. So might as well go now. I managed to weasel my way into getting the time off from work, and still having a job when I got back, I just had to wait until this year to do it. So I figure now's as good a time as any.
