Came over here from TRS hoping to get a response here. I have an aftermarket keyless entry, brand is ICDynamics. I bought the truck with it so I have no idea where the reciever is. My remote is bad and I'm planning on getting a new one but I have to get to the reciever thingy to program it is think. I looked all under the dash with no luck, plus I don't know what exactly I'm looking for. Where would an aftermarket rke receiver be on a ranger?

Since most of the wiring would be on drivers side of dash I would look there.
Is it just keyless entry or an alarm as well?

There would be no standard place where it would be located in a Ranger since it isn't a factory keyless entry system.
Original installer could put it anywhere he wanted, within reason, I doubt he would disassemble the dash to install it so it should be accessible without too much trouble.
You may want to pull off the lower dash cover under the steering column, that isn't to hard and installer may have done that.

From what I saw on ic dynamics website it will just be a smaller, maybe 3"x3", black box with several wires coming out of it.

Looks like JC Whitney used to be the distributor for these but dropped them fairly recently since there is still a link on the IC Dynamics website but it no longer works and JC Whitney website has no IC Dynamics products.

Once you find the module get the part number of of it.

I read your other post over at TRS, reads like just the buttons on the fob are worn out.

This would be a better solution and cheaper.
You can take apart the fob(s) to install new batteries and also clean the contacts for the buttons, it is very very simple to do.
You clean the circuit board's contacts with alcohol
Then on the buttons back side you can "paint" on a conductor or glue on a small piece of foil(metal) so when button is pressed circuit is closed and signal is sent.

What happens with remotes is that the circuit boards get dirty and/or the buttons conducive material on the backside wears off, so when you push the button there is little or no connection so no signal is sent.

You can also get a new fob and swap circuit board from old one to new one, so you get the new buttons but it sends out the same signal that works now, assuming circuit board is cleans up OK.
So no reprogramming would be needed

 

My remote is old and doesn't have that design. They are actual buttons.

 

And it's just lock and unlock. No alarm. Very basic, lights dont flash or horn doesn't beep.

 

Those are even easier and cheaper to replace.

Poplar Bluff shows a Radio Shack, they may have those switches, and there is a place called A-1 electronics that might fix that for you for a price of course.

This is assuming the switches are the problem, which, since these are the only moving parts on any remote, seems likely

 

Plus the case is broke. The screws are stripped. I'd have to tape it but it would work I guess lol.
