Save Gas
I was watching Mythbusters the other day and they proved that if you keep you tail gate up, you will save more gas then keeping it down.

Very dependant on the vehicle. Did they do it on a ranger? Aaron |
um... you have a tornado.....
have you actually seen it saving you gas? because the first thing you can do to save gas is take that out |
How would you see it saving you gas? They must sell tornado goggles or something..
Aaron |
well, first he'd check his mpg before putting the tornado... then check the mpg after the tornado... then see the difference
|
What'd you say if he saw an improvement then?
Aaron |
id say i am going to a 24 hour autozone to buy one myself
|
I think the tailgate and tornado have been so beat to death, it isn't even worth discussing. It has been well established for years that lowering the tailgate does NOT improve milage and that the tornado is a joke that does nothing.
|
Yep what he said. Nearly every Ranger Site, and a number of others as well, have had numerous topics on both of these subjects. Tail up helps, and tornado if anything hurts.
|
keeping the tailgate up creates an airpocket for the air to flow over, keeping it down alows the air to flow freely, but it slamms into the bed and causes alot of down force....
matt made a prevous post with the top one being the best effeciancy.... Hard tonnoue soft tonnoue Level cap raised cap tailgate up tailgate down no tailgate... |
That is right about the air pocket and the test was done on an F150. The Tornado does give me like an extra mile or two to the gallon. When I bought my truck, I could go like 280 miles before the tank was empty. Then I got a tornado and and K&N cone filter and took out my air box and I was getting to like 330 miles. I think those numbers work for me :)
|
you realize its the K&N giving you the better MPG not the tornado...
|
on mythbusters the tailgate down didnt do crap..
you need a tono cover or something to improve.. id hate to see my mileage if i took my cover off :squint: |
After I put my cap on i'm averaging 1.5 miles to gallon.. 28.5 was 27 before. You can feel a difference when going down the highway, the wind doesn't seem to pull it down as much. Tailgate up or down rely's on long or short bed and the aerodynamics of the truck. On the 2000 f150 I had the mpg dropped with the tailgate down... on the Ranger I never tested it so don't know. But the aerodynamics of the ranger isn't near and good as the F150.
