Ive done some searching and cant really find an answer. Im curious. My manual says to use 5w 30 oil. Those number pertains to weather so cold n warm climates. How thick or thin the oil is? How well it can stand the climate? Then why dont people change the oil according to the climate?

 

I use 5w20 or 30 in the winter because it is thinner than 10w30 which will put less stress on the motor in cold climates. In the spring and summer I use 10w30 to keep the engine cooler because of the oil being thicker. Hope this answers your questions

 

5W30 is thinner in the cold than 10W30. At operating temperature they are exactly the same... I always used to use 5W30 in my old Ranger and 10W30 in the summer but there's no problem using 5W30 year round.

 

So people do switch oils as season changes. Ok. Thank you!

 

I always ran Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W30 year round with a Motorcraft FL400S filter.

3 months or 3000 miles every change, whichever came first.

 

I jus went n bought pennzoil synthetic 5w30 n the fram gaurd. First oil change since new heads

 

Should have gone with a Motorcraft filter. Fram does not fare well in tests.

Fram has cardboard in it....If you haven't used it yet I would return it and buy a Motorcraft or Purolator filter instead.

 

Ahh does it really? Wtf? I did it all yesterday so it in. N i really like the little grip end on it. I try to use filters with a nut end or the grip for easier removal. This is my first time using fram. Usually i use napa or something and k&n once but that was 13 bucks.

 

Ok read n watched some things online kinda nervous now. Dumb question but nvr done it...how much oil would i lose if i switched oil filters?

 

You would lose up to a quart just changing your filter. I use synthetic 10W-40 since I live in a hotter climate (central Texas) and it does get into the teens sometimes but not very often and only for a day or two so I would run the best weight for your climate.

 

just stick with the fram until your next oil change.

I went i to advance to get some heet anyways and i asked n he saod return it. Its junk. Alot of ckmplaints. Dnt get anything but purolator or motorcraft hr said. I told him i put it in already he said im here till 530 return it.

 

Nice, if you wanna go through the trouble then do it. When i first got my truck i used fram and penzoil but i moved on to motorcraft everything once I started talking to Justin (toreador4x4) lol

The truck comes with motorcraft oil from the factory so thats why I also kept using it.

 

Ya that is weird? Hah..it wnt be trouble i love this stuff. Could do without the snow tho.
