just having a normal conversation with this guy about our trucks. i brought up my need for new wheels (15x8s) he goes, dude i got some old american racing wheels sittin in my shed at home, i been trying to sell them for like 20 bucks, GET THEM OFF MY HANDS. well you sure cant turn that down :biglaugh: They have a little surface rust, but hell, other than that, they are mint.

My question, these are not my favorite style, but you know, take what you can get. So, i wanna eventually get these powercoated flat black. How much would this run? The guy who gave me the wheels says if you know somebody at like BilJax or something, they will run them through for free.

Option 2, can i paint them myself? If so what all will i need as far as primer (if needed) and what kind of paint. I would imagine its best to use a clear, even though i want them flat black. idk i just dont wanna have to paint them again.

Well, for the time being i may just throw them on and run em like that idk.

i put one of these on, they are 195/65 and they already stuck out farther than my 32's!!! i guessed maybe 3.5" BS but idk. so i cant imaigine what they will do to the 32s.

Not bad. What are you going to do with your old rims? If you are gonna sell them, I call dibs.

TazDevil07 Jul 15, 2009 10:49 AM

cool!

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 11:28 AM

Robert, you got dibs.

Id love to see some real advice though guys :P

If you plan on painting them, duplicolor makes a good wheel paint, I've used it on my Bronco's wheels. Just make sure there is no rust on the wheel at all, otherwise it will eventually come up through the paint.

chainfire Jul 15, 2009 11:35 AM

The easiest way IMO is if you get them sandblasted. Then primer, then paint. Powder coat them if you can, but spray bombing them will make for easier touch ups.

sullys_ranger Jul 15, 2009 12:07 PM

nice find dude, run em first then decide on paint

Tys 4x4 FTW Jul 15, 2009 12:18 PM

you should get them powdercoated while they're not on the truck yet

get those little donuts off of them, and find a place to do it. its usually not that expensive. maybe like 20 bucks a wheel max? thats the prices i've seen around here at least.

Black Anger Jul 15, 2009 12:47 PM

Don't paint those, seriously!

ES894x4 Jul 15, 2009 12:54 PM

x2 on the duplicolor wheel paint, sprayed the steels on my old ranger no primer no clear and the finish is still holdig up great a year later

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 03:40 PM

i might go the duplicolor route guys, although there is some rust. what should i do about that? i can work on it more, see what i can do. i gotta pay a traffic ticket here in the next few days, so after that i will buy some stuff lol

rangercrazy07 Jul 15, 2009 03:46 PM

imo they aren't the best but you can't beat free!!!!!!

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 04:16 PM

hey mitch, why shouldn't i paint them?

oh and can somebody tell me the model of these wheels, or link me to an info page.

rstangboi Jul 15, 2009 04:36 PM

hell, i wouldnt waste money on powdercoat...

just scuff em up and spray bomb...they were free.

Wal-Mart will do it for a round $25. I wouldnt get the life time balance and rotation through them. They seem really difficult and unwilling to work on them unless you are handing them money.

try some steel wool on the rust then maybe so ospho i think its called it turns rust back to metal

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 04:49 PM

^ ospho? more detail please

edgerider2002 Jul 15, 2009 05:00 PM

wd-40 and steel wool works for me removing rust

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 07:35 PM

hey, um i just went and measured those wheels...and...unless im crazy...they measured to be 15x9's...

BB2 Jul 15, 2009 08:22 PM

You probably measured from lip to lip... you measure a wheel inside the lip to inside the lip. I did it too till someone told me different lol

robert99ranger Jul 15, 2009 08:27 PM

I wouldnt waste my time powder coating them.

Just go out and get the finest steel wool you can find. Then go to town polishing them up. I would let me chrome Z06 wheels go for months and get covered in brake dust and road grime. About 5 mins a piece with super fine steel wool and they'd look like new.

yellow_edge Jul 15, 2009 10:04 PM

tyler, your probably right, cause i did it when they were still on.

i think im gunna just take them to walmart tomorrow and have them switch the wheels onto my 32s.

only thing to think about is if i want to keep white out, or go black.

morris Jul 17, 2009 09:03 AM

those could be hammers, but i'm like 99% sure hammers only came front wheel drive.

Jimmeh Jul 17, 2009 09:09 AM

I'd stick with what you got, personally. Those wheels would be good studded winter tire wheels.
