Shifting Question

I have a 2003 4.0 automatic fx4 and my transmission shirts extra hard more times than not when i punch it. For instance, some times i take a route where i have to pull out on the highway and right when i turn i have to start climbing a hill and i punch it to get into traffic and my truck revs way up while trying to get up the hill and then it shirts extra hard. And when im driving down the road and i wanna show off and rev up my motor i put it into neutral and rev it up and wait for the rpms to come down and then i put it back into drive and hit the gas and it revs up for a second like it is in neutral still and then it shifts into drive with a extra hard shift. It does it also when i going 40 mph or so and then punch it, it will drop down a gear and then when it shifts it will shift hard instead of smooth. I have checked my trans fluid and its full. Is this normal? I dont know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are really hard on your trans. It shifts hard sometimes. they just do that sometimes. If it is doing it all the time you may need to have it looked at and find out what is wrong with it and go from there.

my dads truck is an automatic, when i get on the gas the torque converter will unlock and the rpms go way up.
what you are feeling is the torque converter and the overdrive working.
this is normal for an automatic.

I got the same thing. And i wonderd the same as you. It shifts crazy hard sometimes. mostly when i pass people or get on it. I also noticed that it acts funny when im just cruisin around 45 or 50 and it gets ready to go into overdrive. Almost like its trying to decide whether to shift or not. I've just been turnin overdrive off if im in town and plan on keepin the speed below 55.
